Andre Ward is insanely overrated

Ward was legit after the super 6 tournament.

Then he did nothing for 4 years. Fought 2 bums in 4 years.

Lost the first Kov fight.

"won" the second Kov fight with a 5 punch combination straight to the balls.

Ward is a joke, he had potential but is a fouling headbutting cheater who did nothing after the super 6 and has BS "wins" over Kov.

Ward is one of those fighters that adjusts so well in a fight. His style is not appealing and he gets a lot of flak for it. Calzaghe did the same, a few rounds and they figure out what works and what doesn't.

Not fan friendly styles.

Watching back his fights, yeah this dude was a terrible fighter. The dirtiest successful boxer there many have ever been. The amount of corruption he has that benefitted him was insane too, he didn't stop Kovalev in that second fight and it was stopped due to low blows. He's a fraud through and through.

Ward gets props from real boxing fans. Those who **** on him are just bitter little ****s who have no voice except here on this forum. I don't like Kovs style of boxing at all, but I respect him. He can't fight inside at all. He is a force if you stay in the end of his punches. When guys fight him on the inside he was a head locker when he was in a real fight. But like any fighter, I like to see them solve their problems and McGirt seems to be a major influence in the latter stages of his career. Buddy has helped preserved that ugly style of his.

Honestly idk why people get so upset when someone mentions that Ward fought all of his fights at home, was not really overly impressive in any of his fights and received the lion's share of 'close' rounds since he was at home, and in some of his big fights there were serious questions about whether he should have been DQd or penalized.

No one is picking on him lol...just calling it like they see it...if he was dominating guys and getting clean KOs or victories I would give him props...but imo from watching his fights he was pretty clearly protected very well and just is not what he was billed as, as far as a boxer...he seems like a decent guy though and was a tough smart fighter for sure.

Btw the Super Six for some reason was fought exclusively in the US for Ward...when most of the top SMWs at that time were not from the US...and where for some reason his first 4 fights were all in Oakland...including his first fight against the number 1 seed Kessler...

I mean why would that fight be in the backyard of the challenger who was ranked like number 10 at that time at SMW...come on man, it's clear to me that the powers that be were setting up that tourney to try and propel Ward as a star, they wanted the next Mayweather...they said as much.

If he was getting clear wins on the road or neutral sites I would give him props...but when you grind out close 50/50 fights or have controversial wins and get the nod because you are at home...I mean why should any cheerlead for that?

Ward mastered all of the basic fundamentals and his instincts in the ring, his reactive ability, that was on par with Mayweather. A lot of the stuff people are disgusted by, that being the way Ward operates on the inside, well none of that stuff is new to the sport. Everyone's is entitled to their opinion. You aren't the only one calling it like they see it. I don't care what anyone says about Wards style. I loved it, but I had criticism of his lack of a natural right hand. That same right hand that hurt Kov. The point of my post is even if you don't like a guy, you have to respect him.

Kov was given excuses even after being kod. HE even gave excuses and fans ****ted on him. But he got revenge and then pulled out a tough win. Props to him. That deserves respect.

Meanwhile, you guys expect fans to love Kov and hate Ward because you think he got gifts, and fought at home and had close fights, lmao. In that ring none of those criticisms protect you in that ring except your skills.

Ward was an extremely dirty fighter. He hits off the break almost 100% of the time. He tried to elbow his opponents in close whenever he thought the ref was at a bad angle to see him. Low blows, too indeed. His technique was all around not pleasing to watch, but effective.

What Ward had though, was high ring IQ, defense to avoid punches, and grit/dog to tire out his opponents with all that wrestling shit. Basically, his fitness and defense was how he won the lion's share of his victories... in my opinion, of course.

His personality is very smug on top of all that big-time, which is why he had a small fan base.

But, but... to his credit, at day's end he won at the game of life and boxing, in general. He retired undefeated. He is rich and famous. And finally, he got all of his haters still talking about him, including yours truly.

... I keep repeating this: Ward got his right shoulder injured when he was like 12 yo, and practically fought all his career with only one hand (i.e. the left hand), in an inverted southpaw stance...

... So: we'll never know how good he could have really been in case he had both hands healthy...

... as a full measure oh his intelligence and craftsmanship: when needed, Ward successfully displayed almost all dirty tactics in the book!... Nobody ever (in the boxing history) managed to use such a wide range of dirty techniques and get away with it, also...

... and I don't remember another top pro fighter to be ever deducted 2 points (in one round) for "unsportsmanlike conduct"!!!
