I think boxing is great the way it is. Anyway there probably will be no changes anytime soon. Deaths happen in the three round amateur fights too. It's a dangerous sport. They don't need to make every fight a 12 rounder. Save that for title fights only.

Same day weigh ins were much better. Changing that was a ****** mistake and they should change it back but they never will. That was supposed to improve safety for boxers but it didn't. I miss the old 15 round title fights too.

Its not like it would be copying MMA to drop the number of rounds, there has been pro and amateur boxing with less than 12 rounds forever. Making it an odd number of rounds would seem to make sense, if you want to avoid draws.

The thing with MMA is that it also combines wrestling and submissions, those things often take time to build, hence longer rounds make sense in that regards. The fact there were rounds at all in MMA was one of the things the Gracie's didn't like from memory.

Boxing should be 5 minutes per round for 20 rounds or a last man standing match. Death is part of boxing so they should fight till death, no decision!

I also feel like for todays fans boxing lasts a long ass time compared to most peoples attention span. Okay people chill out & watch NFL or NBA games for hours, but I see people being more relaxed watching these more mainstream sports + there are multiple long breaks & halftimes to give you some down time. Boxing requires your complete attention or you could miss the highlight of the night. You can't casually watch boxing the same as other sports cuz of the whole angle changing in a second. I think MMA has capitalized off of the deceased attention span of combat sports with their 15 minute regular fights & 25 minute title fights.

I know that boxing fans are not outside the box thinkers & are overly loyal to the history of boxing so I don't expect many people to actually be a fan of this idea, but I think it'd be better for boxing the sport with fans & with preventing severe injuries & deaths in the ring if fights were shorter. The human brain isn't equipped to deal with sustained attack for THAT long & beyond the worst stories in boxing I think the guys who left "okay" from boxing who no longer speak as they once did like SSM or Evander among many others prove the amount of damage fighters brains are going through when they've taken so many punches to the head.
Maybe they should set a maximum on head punches allowed & force the fighters to target the body instead by not setting a limit.

Athletes play all kinda of sports all the time at less than 100% & don't die. Its not entering at less then 100% thats the problem that makes boxing so different. Its the sustained punches to the head over too long a period of time thats making boxing a more dangerous sport then it needs to be.

I think most people want this. I hear more people suffering from some sort of boxing stockholm syndrome suggesting they think 2 to 4 champs is better but I think they just need to see a 1 champ boxing universe to realize thats how things should be. Thats what makes sense & the only thing that makes sense.

ONE Championships in MMA got the best weight cutting rules in combat sports by a mile. But they only implemented them after someone died due to cutting. I think someone is gonna need to die in boxing or the UFC due to weight cutting specifically before any moves get made with all that sh^t unfortunately.
Lots of guys in boxing have died from weight cutting IMO. But that's been a long standing theory of mine for a while. Cutting weight drains the protective barrier between your brain and your skull.

I think the amount of rounds are good, just need to find a way to stop these guys from draining themselves to unhealthy levels to attain an advantage.

Thats the thing with boxing fans. They hate change like no other sports fan. The NFL is changing rules yearly. If boxing had some real structure idk if we'd be changing rules yearly, but we'd be changing them more often for sure.

Deaths happen in the three round amateur fights too. It's a dangerous sport.
Absolutely they do. But at a much lower rate. Go google some boxing tragedies & see how many come in the 9th round or later. Its undeniable these incidents happen much much more often in the later rounds. I've not done super extensive research into ring deaths & severe injuries but of the over 50 fights I have looked into 70%+ of them happen past the 8th round. I don't believe thats just a coincidence. The brain can only sustain so much damage in a short span of time.

And to be clear I'm not saying how to end severe injuries & deaths in boxing. That an impossible goal. I'm saying how you lower the number of severe injuries & deaths in boxing.

I used to romanticize the tragedy in boxing like you are saying. I used to really dig the severity of the sport in the bare knuckle days too. That was a serious f#cking sport back then. There weren't many guys you could find with more than 20 fights back then. Careers were short & mfers died & got severely injured much more back then.

I have a harder time doing that now. I've seen too many cats of high skill &/or with too much heart for their own good get their life as they knew it destroyed or ended to keep appreciating how altering this sport can be. I want more cats to get in, find out how good they are, get paid & get out in one piece & do sh^t past their boxing life or in other areas in boxing like Floyd, Robert Garcia & Oscar.
