Boxing Should Be Less Rounds For Safety & For Simplicity

Since Adonis Stevenson got hurt I've been thinking more & more about the duration of fights & how that maybe putting fighters more at risk to being severely hurt or killed in the ring. And after doing some research I've found that most ring deaths happen in the last 4 rounds of fights.

I also feel like for todays fans boxing lasts a long ass time compared to most peoples attention span. Okay people chill out & watch NFL or NBA games for hours, but I see people being more relaxed watching these more mainstream sports + there are multiple long breaks & halftimes to give you some down time. Boxing requires your complete attention or you could miss the highlight of the night. You can't casually watch boxing the same as other sports cuz of the whole angle changing in a second. I think MMA has capitalized off of the deceased attention span of combat sports with their 15 minute regular fights & 25 minute title fights.

I know that boxing fans are not outside the box thinkers & are overly loyal to the history of boxing so I don't expect many people to actually be a fan of this idea, but I think it'd be better for boxing the sport with fans & with preventing severe injuries & deaths in the ring if fights were shorter. The human brain isn't equipped to deal with sustained attack for THAT long & beyond the worst stories in boxing I think the guys who left "okay" from boxing who no longer speak as they once did like SSM or Evander among many others prove the amount of damage fighters brains are going through when they've taken so many punches to the head.

Maybe the breaks between rounds should be 2 minutes. More oxygen to the brain, better recovery, and more time for a doctor to examine the fighters. I wouldn't mind if the 12-rounders are 11 minutes longer if it helps prevent injuries and saves lives.

I don't like the idea of boxing copying MMA, but there is something to be said for the benefit MMA has had from learning from boxings mistakes. I think if MMA had come first & boxing 2nd I think boxing would be a better structured sport just like MMA has been with their various rules that differ from boxing (weight divisions, rounds, universal cutmen, etc) & other older combat sports.

I don't contend to know the best way to go about it I just feel like we should be doing less of it.

Boxing has been watered down too much already.
12 rounds is too short for a championship fight.
They should be scheduled for 13 rounds imo.

SSM and Holyfield should have not had their licenses renewed after they became washed up.

Roberto Duran had a lot more fights and does not show any dementia now b/c he defended his dome very well.

If you want to avoid more deaths, you will need to set some rules on weight cutting.
Most of these tragedies were due to heavy weight cutting . Jimmy Garcia, Gerald Mcleland ,Deuk Koo Kim among them.

I would favor cutting rounds to 2:40, and increasing the total rounds to 12 to avoid draws.

            No way.
5 minute rounds would be a nightmare to score .

Idk that that would help. I think once your brain is getting knocked around your skull that you need more recovery time than just an extra minute. From my understanding most serious injuries happen when you get repeated brain injuries in a short time span. Giving more recovery time might allow more guys who've been concussed to get more concussed in future rounds resulting in more severe injuries not less.

I definitely see weight cutting being a contributing factor to severe injuries and deaths in the ring. By no means do I believe they are the main cause. I've been a proponent for weight cutting changes for awhile.

ONE Championships in MMA got the best weight cutting rules in combat sports by a mile. But they only implemented them after someone died due to cutting. I think someone is gonna need to die in boxing or the UFC due to weight cutting specifically before any moves get made with all that sh^t unfortunately.

Guys get ****ed up in the ring because they enter with compromised health before hand. Dont want to die in boxing? Take it seriously, and that means taking your health seriously, not going obscene amounts of hard sparring, draining yourself to fit into a class you clearly dont belong and not disclosing an organ injury etc etc.

People die everywhere, all the time, doing whatever. You dont want people to die boxing? Get rid of it all together, because they'll still die like they still die in the amateurs.

Would prefer same day weigh-ins. Also realistic drug testing. Otherwise, I like 15 round fights for the title.

But then, I want one title per division. Old school.
