        Which 5 are elite?

Sure he is skimming on the positive side in regards to his resume, but he is still on track to accomplish more. Only time will tell if he's the greatest. He has all the skills to make it happen. Now we just need to wait and see. I think, KO-ing any of the top contenders atm, would instantly get him there, But even if he wins decisions over Charlo, Andrade, GGG III, Smith, he'll still get there.

Pacquaio is the only active fighter with a better resume. And nobody else is even close.

Hes fought atleast 3 guys he didnt even have to in the first place - Lara, Trout and Jacobs. So what if those were close wins, he could have ducked those fights like so many PPV champs do, the low reward, high risk fights, but he took them.

Alvarez has said he's the best fighter of his era.
How can you say that and not fight the top guys?

You're right, resume discussions are never ending because it's mostly opinion.
Rarely, but every once in a while, you can get a reasonable comment.

Trout, Lara, Jacobs, GGG, and Cotto were all elite at the time that Canelo fought them.

I disagree. Here's my take on it.
Trout's a good fighter, not elite. His best win was a faded Cotto before he lost to Alvarez. Only 5-5-1 after stepping up in class.
Only good matchmaking got Cotto to MW Champ, literally beat a one legged guy for the title. Most def not elite when he fought Alvarez.
Jacobs has lost every time he stepped up in class (0-3 against top guys). Good fighter but not elite.
Avarez has a draw and 2 controversial close decisions against the 2 elite fighters he's faced.
