You fought representing México in amateur tournaments?
You won a world title representing México?
Andy debuted in México, he was made as a boxer with mexican coaches, his actual coach is mexican
None of what you said is disputed. But nationality is only semi-fluid. And there is no reason why Ruiz can't, as a Mexican American, be considered an American and a Mexican. Like I said a lot of fans of all descents, in America have been fighting the good fight for Ruiz.
So basically all Mexican American boxers should leave out ethnic heritage? If you want to contextualize properly, it’s really about generation status. If his parents were born in Mexico then he isn’t that distant. Same goes for the Garcia family and many other Mexican American boxers. Even Ryan Garcia can’t speak Spanish but the young chap embraces his Mexican roots.
Would it be wrong if we were to tell African American boxers that it’s technically wrong for any one of them to embrace African heritage? Africa has many countries and different ethnic groups. A Nigerian, Somali, Kenya, etc.. many look different
By the way have you heard of DAZN?
Since when can an American not embrace their cultural heritage? Which is different than nationality? Yes an african american can embrace their cultural roots...which may be in Nigeria, or the South Bronx. You confuse nationality with cultural roots.
Honestly, I don't see it as a complicated thing. Andy Ruiz is an American citizen, but he's representing Mexican boxing. Seeing him both as an American and a Mexican champion seems legitimate to me.
Amen! Agreed. But that is what makes this country great... The Portugese family that makes their food, worships in a congregation of other portugese...all adding to the melting pot of America.
heres my issue: These Portugese and all immigrants who want to be here would say: I am an American...A Portugese American, an Italian American, etc... So when some idiot says that someone raised up in this country is not anAmerican to me that contributes to this influx of individuals who do not want to be Americans but see fit to take from this nation.
I don't think Ruiz is this way, that is not my point. There are posters here who are that way though. It would be like my son meeting a mentor that inspired him and telling me to go fvk myself...."gee dad I know you went without for me, i know you gave tome all I needed, were there, but I am this guy's son!
I find it hilarious😂how Ruiz identifying as Mexican way more than American pisses off a bunch of the lames on this forum like damn I bet those same losers throw fits when people speak Spanish around them & celebrate Mex Independence Day blasting loud music on the same block they live on
If you are attributing that attitude to me then you misread my intentions. And for the record I grew up in Spanish harlem so people spoke lots of Spanglish (English/spanish).
My comments have nothing to do with Ruiz. It has to do with individuals who see divisions that do not exist and with people who are ingrates. No self respecting immigrants that came over through Ellis Island a generation ago would not be proud to be American. And no, that does not preclude being other thngs because America is a melting pot that takes the individual cultural traits and incorporates them into the national identity.
No freakin boxing fan would say "HEY MARCIANO AINT NO MURICAN HE ITALIAN!! For fvks sake this is ridiculous people have forgotten what it means to be an American.
First off, do not get me wrong...no slight against any nationality, but I would be remiss if I did not express something that is starting to bother me about Ruiz and the narrative of the "mexican warrior."
First off: I have been saying since day one that Ruiz has talent and would be a success...My posts can be found here. I did not even count him out against Joshua, saying "I have not seen him recently" and preferring to just not pick on that fight because of this fact.
Adore Ruiz, and I am not a Mexican warrior, just a white boy from East Harlem which brings me to by point:
Ruiz is a Mexican American. He was raised in this country. He has every right to honor his roots but he is about as Mexican as I am well... I am a lot of different things lol.
Yes he has that fighting spirit, yes he fights in a style that is Mexican in many fundamental respects, but those fast hands, that will of iron was fed on Carnitas from California!
I hope people do not see this as a slight against Mexicans but the fact is fellow Americans like myself took a lot of crap on these boards about Ruiz's dimensions when we proclaimed he would be a success and I deserve to revel in his success as much as the next guy...Messican or otherwise...
If he was a Mexican Native, he would be a bigger star than Canelo after his win over Anthony Joshua 'I do wonder what the reaction was like back in Mexico'.
