Couldn't he say he slipped coz he sure as hell didn't beat the count. Heck, back in the 70s, Breazeale wouldn't even be top 50. He'd struggle to get a sniff in the 90s as well. Borderline garbage hw fighter.

I would say there's many American refs who call break way too quickly, whereas British refs seem to let them punch it out. And most of the compilations of bad (i.e. way too late) stoppages I've seen have been American refs. But I wouldn't like to generalise and say it's a British or American thing necessarily.
I don't think any ref would have been criticised tonight for stopping the count on Breazeale, given he received the hit from Wilder, who is clearly a monster puncher. Personally I appreciate he gave him the full count, because he wasn't out cold (well apart from on his way down), and it's a title fight, and it was the first round, so it's not like he'd been battered for 10 rounds already.Last edited by diplo; 05-19-2019, 05:07 AM.
