Just look at how Shawn Porter, Danny Garcia, & Keith Thurman all ducked Spence. Thurman has an argument having been ducked since 2013 but still, the point is if we stop penalizing fighters who lose, then these guys will stop being afraid of taking chances.

Remember this is the HURT business. Jermell Charlo wasn’t crying because he lost a fight or in a video game lol, he was crying because he’s been brainwashed into believing that 1 loss is equivalent to ‘loser’ who can’t comeback from adversity.

I loved Julian Williams post fight interview as much if not more than his performance because everything that he said was true and the respect and class that he showed for Hurd and his family made me a fan.
I take it by ducked since 2013 you mean Mayweather right?

So tell me, when exactly did Mayweather duck Thurman?

Mayweather came from jail and fought his mandatory challenger, Robert Guerrero.

    Same year he fought Canelo.

The following year he unified titles with Maidana, and gave Maidana a rematch for obvious reasons that need be explained.

After that he fought Manny Pacquio, and then finally took a tune down retirement fight with Berto.

So when exactly was Thurman the top candidate to fight Mayweather?

So glad I got to witness this fight live..it was all that and a bag of chips. Best fight I seen live since the Kelly Pavlik - Jermaine Taylor barn burner in AC.

JUST MY OPINION, NOT SAYING I AM RIGHT.

This was a great fight and the rematch would likely be great too. I feel the difference in the fight was the first 2 rounds. Hurd planned to take his time and feel JRock out, it feels like his team assumed JRock would box more. But team JRock planned to get after it from the opening bell and that caught Hurd by surprise. The punch that dropped him wasnt as big as some of the ones he ate throughout the fight. Feel safe saying he got caught cold and hurt before he got warmed up. Reminded me of Broner vs Maidana in that sense because AB got rocked and hurt badly very early and never truly recoverd because everytime he started to get into a groove, Maidana would hit him with something that would reset him to the earlier state of being rocked and he would have to recover and try again. I saw the same from Hurd on Saturday. He was showing his class in spurts as he built up momentum but would get hit with something solid that would set him back again.

I could see Hurd winning a rematch but due to styles it wouldn't shock me if J Rock beat him again either though because he showed us he can fight Hurds fight already. If he mixes it up and fights on the inside when forced to but also changes it up and outboxes him from the outside he may even have an easier time vs Hurd. But thats assuming Hurd doesnt come out for a dog fight with a sweat already going to start round 1. I would expect Hurd to go in to Terminator mode from round 1 and I just feel that Hurd doing that for 12 rounds would beat J Rock, even though we just saw JRock beat him in a rough dog fight type of match. How Hurd took the beating and how well he fought back tells me he can avenge this loss if they rematch. But again, I wouldnt count J Rock out. Would likely be another close fight no matter who wins.

Was at the fight, great atmosphere. My friends, who are less into boxing, said that there were alot of bad omens for Hurd in this one: Redskins' colors, Redskins' marching band, fighting in his hometown area, etc.

I remember when Holyfield fought Bert Cooper (RIP) in a homecoming fight and almost got KO'd in the process. My guess is that Hurd lacked some of the focus needed because of the homecoming aspect.

I'm a big Hurd fan but could only find 2-3 rounds that I thought he won. I think a change in trainers would probably benefit him at this point and some defensive adjustments.

Good overall assessment. The Broner-Maidana fight comparison I can see in some regards not entirely. Maidana did catch him earlier and Broner kept believing he could regroup but Maidana kept putting doubt in his mind to the point where he was looking for a way out in that one round. Hurd never fought with any doubt in his mind plus his corner wasn't in chaos either. He was grinding as usual, maybe even harder to the point of exhaustion but JRock never gave him the space or the momentum he was looking for.

JRock was suppose to wilt under pressure but it never happened and surprising was the well conditioned fighter of the two. If Hurds fights same way and JRock comes in in same shape, JRock is going to win the rematch again. JRock utilize all the tools in the tool box while Hurd never really got pass using the hammer. Am honestly not even sure what adjustment Hurd can make if JRock comes in the same shape unless he gets caught with something big

I said the same thing about the Redskins. I was like, that's your home team but they are cursed.

Right before the fight they showed Hurd at home with his family and girlfriend and I became skeptical.

Reading the “Haircuts” in the locker room confirms that he probably didn’t train as hard as he should have.

Depending on the timeframe of the rematch clause I think Hurd should refrain from sparring for 6 months and let J-Rock face the Harrison/Charlo winner.
On one side, I gave Hurd huge respect for taking a J-Rock level opponent as a "homecoming" fight. On the other side, I was thinking to myself that taking a J-Rock level opponent as a "homecoming" fight might not be the best idea.

Absolutely it should. I come from an era where you didn’t get a shot at the title until you had some losses, rarely was there undefeated challengers
