Hurd refused to use his jabs effectively and paid dearly for it. Well done Williams for getting to the top again.
I will love to see a rematch.

Fantastic fight and a truly great performance by J Rock!! He was sharp man and throwing every punch to do damage, not just land. Hurd did not seem to take him seriously enough and this article underlines that. Props to Vince Cummings for putting money on him but even he didn’t think that bet would pay. Stephen Edwards & J Rock are nothing but class and I’m very happy for them.

His commitment to the body definitely paid off as Hurd wasn't able to summon a big second wind. That was the best time I've had watching boxing in while. I still like Hurd and think he is must-watch, but J-Rock got himself a fan right here. Salute to both warriors
I recorded to watch it Sunday. Fight was so good I needed a beer at 10 in the morning.

Williams had the right attitude and a better game plan.

I could tell Hurd was banking on wearing him down over time like he did everyone else.

Hurd should've kept the fight midrange. He was woefully innefective from long range because Williams stayed out of his jabbing range. That's why he didn't use his jab that much. Once they got close, Williams was able to go to work because he has a better inside game. Plus he was able to absorb Hurd's punches much better and had an effective body attack. Hurd punches had no snap after just the 2nd round. Williams held when he needed to... He smothered when he needed to... The only time he was in any danger was when Hurd was able to get a little separation. Every time that happen Williams either got back close or backed up out of punching range.

This fight was a good example of boxing at the right distance. Williams did it almost perfectly.

Hurd don't necessarily need to change his style to win a rematch. He just need to figure out a mid range game plan and get ready to change it if Williams decide to box more.

Prefight/pregame focus is very overrated IMO. I was a pretty good athlete back in the day and I literally wouldn’t start thinking about the game until the first play I was in. My coach and I would argue because he made us do “quiet time” before games. Which was basically sitting in a dark ass room for about an hour and a half. And within ten minutes I was running around farting on people and popping folks with towels that were sleep. Not saying I was right. Because some guys really needed the focus time. I’m just saying there’s no right and wrong way to mentally prepare for a fight/game.

Getting a haircut and laughing and joking is not necessarily a bad thing. The mental part of the game is just as important as the physical part. If that kept him relaxed and his mind off the fight so he wasn’t nervous it was probably better for him. Nerves can drain you of your energy. Hurd does kindve fight with a laid back mentality like F it I’ll get this guy at some point. He came on to late he should’ve gotten started earlier.
