Heres the thing though, catchweights are part of the rules & their laid out clear as day. They allow fighters to fight that wouldn't otherwise ever fight & that's sometimes good, sometimes bad. But like everything in boxing, whatever rules are set out it will always be 1 more part of gamesmanship fighters will use to advantage. If jacobs faced trout at full 160 don't you see its just as much gamesmanship on jacobs part as it would've been for trout at a cw. Boxing is inherently unfair

Probably right. But what Jacobs did wasn't cheating. Didn't like it when he did it to Golovkin but it wasn't cheating. Unethical? Yeah..
In this case they allowed extra weight as stipulated in the contract. Jacobs took advantage of it. Hearn and Jacobs as early as Wednesday said they probably won't make weight. If you make weight for the fight you're in the weight class if you can't you should have to move up. If a fighter can't move up without a catch weight then he should stay in the lower division. We already have enough divisions without having to resort to catchweights and weight restrictions. It's a mess. No problem with two guys fighting at catchweights for money but then they wouldn't have to pay sanctioning fees. The alphabet guys won't like that. I'm getting a headache. LOL...

If the contract had stated over 170=no fight I don't think Jacobs would have come in overweight, if for arguments sake he had Canelo's team could have forced him to shed the excess weight which would have significantly weakened him.
