Comments Thread For: Jacobs Faces $1M Penalty, 3 Pounds Overweight At 2nd Weigh-In

LAS VEGAS Eddie Hearn wasn't kidding. Daniel Jacobs' promoter suggested Wednesday that Jacobs could ignore the 170-pound limit for his second-day weigh-in the morning of his fight against Canelo Alvarez. The steep penalty $250,000 per pound over 170 was thought to be prohibitive, but Hearn clarified that weighing over 170 pounds Saturday morning wouldn't cost Jacobs his IBF middleweight or prevent the fight from happening.

Good stuff, no excuses for Jacobs now if he doesn't win. He came in at what he wanted to and didn't kill himseld trying to make the 170 pound limit.

Good for Jacobs. It was a bullshit stipulation by Oscar to begin with.

Smart move by Jacobs. You should try to get every advantage you possibly can. And he's making enough money to where that 250K per pound isn't that big of a deal.

Hearn said he would pay for the penalty anyways so he still gets to keep hits 14.5M purse or whatever it is.

Jacobs definitely came to win, respect it. Canelo's team messed up with such a small penalty in the first place. 250k per pound? Should have been a million per pound.

That might be the better long term investment. Let's see if it pays off.

Nobody should be surprised. Both Hearn and Jacobs thought he would be over.
