That's Haymon and PBC's rep, bad payers and their word means nothing. Good for Maidana not putting up with their BS.

In reality, that's the fight fans wanted to see most at 122 at that point! Just a blatant lie to manipulate the fighter into agreeing with what was best for Al Haymon's company, I guess, rather than what was best for the fighters or the sport or the fans. And it seems like this might just be Al's way of doing business. He's a Harvard grad, most boxers are uneducated, so he probably finds it very easy to manipulate them. And the few times one of them is smart enough to see through it, he would still be protected from being exposed because of the music industry type of contracts it's rumored he makes his boxers sign that allegedly prevent them from saying anything negative about him publicly even if it's true.

Boxing will never thrive as a sport again until stuff like this changes, and boxers wise up.
You got duped, bro. That or you musta forgot.

Santa Cruz had a buyout clause in his Golden Boy contract. When De La Hoya made good on his promise, by beginning negotiations for a fight between Santa Cruz and Rigondeaux - Santa Cruz's management, led by Haymon, executed the buyout clause - which immediately removed the boxer from Golden Boy's stable.
tl;dr: Oscar sold his boy out.

Back when Oscar sued Schaefer, it was Oscar that accepted the payout in exchange for losing all of those fighters. But more importantly: Oscar's lawyers and Oscar himself had to agree to the buyout clause. Tons of other fighters had already been bought out. Oscar should have never accepted a settlement; he had an open-and-shut case against Schaefer and would have been bankrolling off of the fighters he now lost.

I think Chino is going to DAZN. This formal departure is the more technical way to leave without problems.

Robert Garcia always said prior to his initial retirement that maidana didnt box for the love of the sport, he did it for the money as a means to earn a living. Hence why the mayweather paydays sent him into retirement. So its always going to be about the finance part of the deals for maidana.

PBC smart for not giving him the lumpsum off the bat. Maidana can make tens of millions if he returns.

I am glad he reversed his decision. After all that time off, he was not going to come back healthy, whether in shape or not. Being in shape and healthy can be two different things. He also isn't getting any younger.

Won't be the first time financial backers didn't live up to their promises... and for that matter, not the first time a fighter wasn't as certain about their finances, arrangements etc. as they should be.

Having said that, I wish Maidana a good life in true retirement. He definitely put in the effort during his fighting years, and it sounds like he did the same in preparing for the comeback. He seems like a good-natured family man, so all this news is probably just a blessing in disguise.

Damn fighters must be crazy to sign with PBC. Fight once a year, get paid chicken feed and Al Haymon controls your soul and doesn't let you accept monster offers from DAZN that will set you for life financially
