I've never seen him fight and can only judge from BoxRec. Looks like just another unproven up-and-comer to me? He has never faced even a World-level opponent? I feel like this kid is being set up for a biiiiig fall, maybe Jeff Lacy-style owning.

the networks are the primary reason he's getting "hype"

    that's how this works

but to asnwer your question of, "why does he appeal to people / why do people think he's the goods?" it's the power. power is easy to recognize in a young fighter. lopez knocks people out. you can tell the first time he hits these guys that they change their gameplan and they don't want to get hit again. it's easy for a casual fan or a hardcore fan to fall in love with punching power. it's hwat makes this sport exciting and terminal.

Would Crolla had KO'd them like Lopez? No. Would Lopez KO Crolla like Loma? Yes.

I'm not talking about Teo fighting him next. I wanna see him fight Commey or Luke Campbell before he fights Loma. That's about the same level as a Pedraza

But what are you basing your assessment of Lopez being able to knock Crolla out on? Crolla doesn't have power, but he has a very high workrate and has beaten World champions before today. Also, Lopez does not have the boxing ability of Lomachenko, so Crolla would have his success.

He’s a good prospect but not as good as Haney. The hype around him and demand from the people that usually hate Top Rank fighters is prof Top Rank are still the best promotional company in the game.

Because he is loud, flashy, controversial and has big KO power. That’s a great thing. Good for boxing. Great for Lopez.
He’s got a growing profile which will translate to $$$ which is the exact plan.
Lopez needs Loma now (no risk to losing) or much later (better chance of winning). Either way he can use the name loudly and build his profile as a wild young lion.

I think that Loma will handle him pretty easy but anyone can get caught.

Truth is that Lopez has looked great against guys the Crolla would also defeat easily. Lopez has work to do before he jumps over about 20 guys who have done more. Looking forward to seeing him this weekend, he’s an extremely entertaining fighter with a great future from what I’ve seen.

Lopez is a fan of Loma, masquerading as a female hater. He even started doing backflips like Loma haha which was ultra 6ay, but okay.

I think the Lopez fight should happen next, but that's because I don't run TR boxing. Lopez deserves a shot as soon as he gets a strap. The kid literally has one thing to do that his promoters are aiming for anyway and apparently it's an unfair request to the queens of NSB.

TR is going to build this fight. When have they ever let NSB dictate what they do?

Top Rank has a very slim stable of fighters around his weight class. He, his promoter and the ESPN network have to use hyperbole to make Loma-Lopez seem like a huge mega fight because Lopez doesn't have a fan base and he only recently past the prospect stage.
