It's because Gamboa would be the biggest name on Gervonta Davis' short career. If it's alright for Danny Garcia to cherrypick and pad his resume with low risk, washed up, diminished legends on the decline and past their primes like Erik Morales and Zab Judah then why is it so wrong for Tank Davis to do the very same?

Nunez (20-2, 18 KOs) is scheduled to box Colombia’s Didier Castillo (5-0-1, 4 KOs) on April 30 in Panama City. If Nunez, the WBA’s No. 2-ranked contender for Davis’ title, is declared his mandatory challenger, Davis could attempt to satisfy his mandatory obligation rather than boxing Gamboa on July 27.

The number 2 ranked contender Nunez is lined up to fight a guy with only 6 pro fights?? Is Castillo that good or they feeding him a scrub?

Gamboa is passed his prime, they need to pick someone else. I mean seriously the last guy was a late replacement at least pick someone who has a chance. I'm not saying Gamboa is a pushover but he's not what he used to be.

Gamboa didn't fight in junior lightweight in 7 years! Who's to say he can even make that weight at this point? (I'm not sure if Davis can).
Well that's definitely a dilemma that must be addressed. We don't know if Gamboa could still make that 130lbs weight limit and if he does could do it in a healthy way without draining or dehydrating himself.

As a fighter ages it becomes harder for them to cut weight. The weight stays on them like luggage. They could try to dry themselves off all they want but that weight yet still stick to them like glue.

Had to look this 5-0-1 guy up after reading this. According to his boxrec he's had 1 fight vs a guy with a winning record & I'll give you one guess what column of his record that outcome is listed in lol.

Mfing ABC groups so damn corrupt AND have no shame. Sh^t is embarrassing people with real power in boxing don't make change in the game.

Even young fighters like Davis staying too long in one division and dehydrating themselves pay the price, it takes years from your career.
Davis clearly can't make 130 in a healthy way any more, last weight in he looked like a dead man. He will pay for draining himself so severely later on in his career.

Ya know, Davis could just push for the Lomachenko fight after this and give us a great match up....One that I believe he competes with until the final bell, and one he may be able to actually pull it off. Mayweather Promotions need to let this supreme talent loose.
One thing I definitely believe with Tank is he needs to say whats what more.

Floyd lowkey insulted Tank awhile back by saying "don't blame Tank for who he's been fighting cuz when I ask Tank who he wants to fight he says he don't care so I make the call on his opponent" or w/e he said similar to that.

Tank needs to start caring who he fights. Tank needs to say I want another title holder at 130 or Loma at 135 or w/e he actually wants assuming he does wanna find out how good he is & how much money he can make in his career. I don't think boxers in general do that enough (respect to Bud btw for doing this & getting Khan instead of Collazo recently). You as a boxer with the most skin in the game than anyone else with your trajectory need to be going for your max level when you are as talented as Tank is. Idk if Tank appreciates or even understands the power he wields yet.
