I think GGG vs Canelo 3 is an excellent fight. It changes everything. It’s a more comfortable GGG and to be totally honest, Canelo’s strategy goes back to bout #1. The reason why I also don’t like it, is because Canelo haters and casuals exaggerate should Canelo fight like SRL and use ring movement to an advantage. As long as the “runner” gives back with punchstats then there’s no need for industry to make it seem like Canelo is required to fight ONE WAY all while GGGt’s team gets to fight a random way that wasn’t promoted as they themselves promised. This is how we know the hate for Canelo is real.

Also, I prefer GGG at PBC so that he can beat Plant at 168. It also gives Haymon options for GGG vs DeGale in the UK. Great options for GGG imho.

In years to come people will go back to the classic GGG Canelo series with new generations enjoying it. New generations aren’t obligated to agree with Lederman’s on screen scorecard as new age fans understand topics of bias and favoritism.

I disagree with Bread on Lopez-Haney, why should we have to wait? Part of modern boxing's host of problems is fighters not fighting each other because the fight needs to marinate.

Ggg is at a crossroads,he can

        A. Cement his legacy by facing the strongest challenge available then Canelo for 3rd fight,or

        B. Cement his legacy by moving up to 168 to at least fight for a belt then Canelo or someone equally challenging.

        C. Facing some more guaranteed win opponents, followed by a cashout vs Canelo

        D. He can fight a champ at 160 & become Canelos roadblock to undisputed

        E. He can face whichever of these choices but then retire afterwards without rematching Canelo

Depending on which of these choices he chooses will dictate how gggs career is remembered. How a fighter comes back from adversity can make them legends or remembered as unfulfilled hype.

I think there are two other points that may mark against Ward-

                1) His hiatus prime year hiatus from the sport. He went mid 2012-mid 2015 with nothing more than a Unanimous Decision vs Edwin Rodriguez.

                2) The controversies of the Kovalev fights. I would say the majority of fans feel like he lost the first fight, and though he was clearly winning fight 2, some punches at the end landed low.

FWIW I was, and still am, a big Ward fan; but how differently would we look at him if the 1st Kov fight was a UD the other way (which wouldve been reasonable)?

"I have a tip for you. NEVER read the commentary section of articles. It will make you puke. Most fans are not knowledgeable."

I laughed out loud at that...

...then realized he was talking about me.

                  Dang, Bread is onto me.

Love this mailbag. As a fan of boxing most of my life, I am trying to learn the sport a little better. Believe or not, when people are not dropping name calling like 5 year olds or are not obsessed either for or against a boxer, there ARE some good posters who know this sport. Breadman and several of you have helped me become a better boxing nutcase.

I agree. I am predicting option C as the most likely scenario.

Ward is one of the best smws/lhws of all time imho,BUT I will concede that had he beaten Kov more convincingly 1st fight he would be an atg legend to some, but others would deride Kovalev as a D level despite him being unified champ(I had the 1st fight a draw or Ward win by a pt,but it was 1 of those fights that demonstrate what happens when the best face off undefeated & still in prime(its almost ALWAYS debatable)

But I am in the group that says kovalev has NOBODY to blame but himself for folding like a chair in 2nd fight despite saying "ward hits like a girl & hed walk through him".

When a fighter hunches over like Kov its not a low blow anymore, the video replays all showed the same thing which is Kovalev quitting, thats the unbiased truth he Quit in 2nd fight(he can blame it on trainer all he wants, his name is krusher ffs,hes a veteran in the game but he still acted like hes unaware that any ref would've stopped a fighter that did what he did,& he knew that when someone supposedly hits you in the nuts & gets away w it they get hit back til the ref says something.)
