... obviously, Machado is right -- he actually is the WBA "super" champ since Oct 21, 2017, when he beat Jezzrel Corrales (the then "super" champ)...

Nothing coming from the WBA should surprise boxing fans. I remember reading articles here in 2016, 2017 and 2018 - basically every year - about the WBA President wanting to reduce the number of WBA titles by having the "super", "regular" and "interim" champions face each other until only one champion for each weight-class remains. Obviously none of that has happened.

The WBA still has more than ten weight-classes with two or three world champions and in the Cruiserweight division they have four and they even made a French boxer "Gold" champion (??), a term I had never heard of before. The poor guy is probably bragging about it every day at his local gym.

Not saying Machado beats Davis, but it'd be interesting to see how Davis would cope with a 4.5" height/reach disadvantage. Machado has the wingspan to keep away from those damaging Davis uppercuts.

Probably even more egregious than when they promoted Sturm to Super Champ. At least that time they changed the rules to allow their corruption rather than just flat out breaking them like they did here.
            Yes, but not by much.

GGG was mandatory challenger for the WBA middleweight title. They didn't have a "super" title at MW.

When GGG demanded that his promoter, who also promoted Sturm, got him his mandated shot, the WBA told him, "Ok, you can fight for the WBA title, but not against Felix Sturm, because he is now a super champion, and you're not mandatory for the super title"

WBA f-ed up Machado. They took his "super" title and gave it to Gervonta overnight. Seems WBA is also in Al's pocket, not just WBC. Sad.

Indeed. I know the history of it. They literally changed their rules sometime in late 2009 / early 2010 from the Super Champion being a unified champ to being someone who had held the strap for 5 defenses for no apparent reason and with the only beneficiary being Sturm. According to Ahmet Öner money changed hands to achieve this end, although TBF Öner is a crooked cunt himself so I wouldn't consider that unassailable proof. Still...

Oddly, though, when Golovkin reached 5 defenses they chose not to make him 'Super' Champion. Go figure.

Like I say though, at least they went to the effort of rewriting the rulebook before they screwed GGG... they didn't even bother to come up with a reason to fuck Machado over best I can tell.

The alphabet organizations can do crap like this because fans seem to be enamored with belts and this title versus that title. I've seen more complaints about Machado not being the super champion than complaints about why Davis and Machado haven't fought and don't seem to be on a collision course to fight.

But the WBA loves going to the media and telling them how they have such great plans for reducing the number of champions in boxing. But unfortunately like the article said there's no overarching power to slap their hands...

They did Machado dirty, no doubt.
