Efe Ajagba is one fighter I that should take over from Wilder.

That could very well be the case! Efe Ajagba is 24. Deontay Wilder is 33! Father time is undefeated!

He went from the kiddy pool to the ocean. In my opinion a few more fights against guys like Kevin Johnson, Derric Rossy & Kauffman may have better prepared him for the next level. Getting some more quality rounds in would have helped him build some stamina & confidence going into the next level of competition. That is how the HWs in the 90s did it. Beat the journeymen, then the Monte Barretts, Obed Sullivans & Lou Savereses before taking on the the top 20 fighters. Kauffman is at the fringe contender / top 30 level like Barrett, Sullivan & Saverese were.
        Kauffman is barely top 100..

Boxingrec has him at 95 but he is better than that... I had to change my post because I saw that is where you got barely 100 from. He can beat a lot of those guys ahead of him. Kauffman has been in the top 15 in a few bodies over the years. He is better than many people think. Another gatekeeper C+ level guy. Not a bad guy to get rounds against.

I hope you don't mean right now. Efe has a lot of work to do before he even thinks about a top HW.

Those two (Ruiz jr and Bounty Hunter) would be good too. We know more about Andy as a HW, he lost that close and disputed decision to Parker in NZ. Hunter is interesting, he gave Usyk a good fight and stopped Ustinov. Ustinov is a big HW but fights like a gentle giant and past whatever prime he had.

Honestly, I think Martin would need to beat a Kauffman type to get to a Hunter or Ruiz who I rate at a higher level than Martin based on their performances in losses (Parker and Usyk).

Martin needs to stay busy. Way too many heavyweights are woefully inactive. If you are not a champion you should fight at least two to three times a year , barring injury of course. If you stay active, you stay relevant!

Kownacki has moved on from that one now I feel. It was a good fight to watch though.

Ortiz would blast him out of their easily IMO.
