In that he signed the contract, sure. He still didn't necessarily choose him.

Did he really call Litzau an A+ win? I remember Larry telling me Willie Pep had a nothing resume and bashing Golovkin but that's out the window if you think Litzau is better than anything either of those beat and Golovkin's resume is thin.

Yea pal he declared Adrien Broner fighter of the decade off a disputed decision over Daniel Ponce De Leon and the obliteration of Jason Litzau. Think "once in a generation talent" was the exact phrase he used.

so he fought triple G? I have no doubt him and the russian did not do Rock Paper Scissors... Ward choose the harder fight and went up in weight to do so. He didn't go up in weight to fight some mediocre fighter, he did so to fight Kovalev. What don't you understand about that? I doubt you even get what my initial post was trying to convey to you. it is immaterial about who signed what. I hope you are just young.

He moved up in weight because 168 was too hard to make, per Ward himself. He couldn't wait any longer to see what G was going to do, which was obviously go after Canelo. And we saw the opponents he was actually trying to choose, but HBO declined them because they were so bad for someone like Ward. So they gave him a 3 fight contract with the stipulation that he had to fight Kov.
