Did Kovalev take bigger risks than Golovkin? Who has the better resume?

Props to Kov for being a road warrior. But fighting B-hop when he was a senior isn’t exactly a great win

His big PPV fight was against Ward a fighter who moved up like Canelo did to Golovkin , Ward who was probably the P4P at the time still had been relatively inactive in previous years ,both Ward /Kov were prime when they fought . Canelo purposely aged Golovkin unlike Canelo ward actually Deserved the Wins against Kov u
How could Canelo have aged Golovkin if the Mexican basically won the WBC during the new year of 2016, to then fight GGG in 2017. That’s a year. Canelo Alvarez offered Golovkin catchweights in 2015. How could Golovkin not want a Canelo PPV with Canelo at 155 or 157 yet was willing to fight Pacquiao and Floyd at 154? That doesn’t make any sense, more like a duck from Golovkin.

If Golovkin’s handlers knew for fact that the public were convinced that because Lemieux was in the way of making the Wars fight then they wouldn’t had even made erroneous headlines for a 164lb catchweight. That’s obvious.

If you don’t think waiting a year and a half and waiting untill Golovkin was 35 ( basically ancient when it comes to 90% of fighters and a age where no fighter is at their best ) wasn’t done on purpose to age Golovkin a little bit instead of fighting him at 33 , fine keep drinking that Kool Aid

But when fans first starting wanting the Canelo / Golovkin fight , Canelos team had him fight Khan , Smith & Chavez all easier less lucrative fights

Year and a half? I guess Pac and May supersede that or Kathy Duva could’ve offered Kovalev to Hopkins a couple years earlier?

He could have done it, of course, but he had also been named mandatory to the Cotto / Canelo winner so had to make a decision on which direction he wished to take. For better or worse he ultimately elected to stay at 160 and await the outcome of the Cotto / Canelo fight.

Ward made his offer in late July, at virtually the same moment the Lemieux fight was announced, but since the Cotto - Canelo fight wasn't til late November, Golovkin / Loeffler really didn't have the luxury of being able to wait and see since Ward was under his own time pressure (to get his HBO contract sealed), though of course GGG may not have known this.

Maybe they could have negotiated some but in the end it seems they had already decided on the plan of pursuing the WBC belt prior to Ward sending the offer and saw no need to change direction... comments from Froch (who said that Loeffler no longer seemed interested in making the fight at 168 and speculated it was because GGG might be looking at a catchweight for Canlo or Cotto) suggest that at this point they weren't looking at moving up at all, for Ward or anyone else.
That was a no brainer...cotto and canelo were established stars and ppv draws, ward wasn’t a draw at all. Maybe he woulda chose a different path if he knew canelo would stall him out for 1.5 years and ward would have been willing to fight at 164.

Yeah year and a half , Canelo fought Cotto in what Nov/Dec 2015 he didn’t fight Golovkin till Sept 2017 roughly a year and a half

Picking 2 ATGs to disprove that almost every fighter is on a decline at 35 isn’t really disproving my point. And both May / PAC weren’t anywhere near their physical primes at that age

Mayweather brilliant boxing IQ should be given the majority of the credit why he was successful at that age and PAC was a one in a million talent was nowhere near prime at that age and already on the downslope

The Kov /Hopkins sentence of yours makes no sense to me

Kov took the fight when it was presented but a 50 year old Hopkins isn’t a overly impressive win. At that point B-hop hadn’t beaten a Notable name in probably 3-5 years

Kova signed with Main Events in 2012. They could’ve fought in 2013 had Duva made a proposal to HBO as well as an offer to GBP.

Why in the World would b-hop fight Kovalev before he won his strap off Cleverly at the end of 2013.

He was unknown , had no fans , no belt and hit like a mule. The fight wasn’t a possibility until 2014. When Kov had been on HBo a couple times and was building a rep and had a strap which is exactly when it got made

Thinking the fight could have happend

kovalev unified in the ring, GGG was all about getting titles given to him apart form the IBF one. This is a major difference, and what makes KOvalev a true elite.

These arguments always go the same way, man. Dudes start calling names and pulling hypothetical fights and 'ducks' outta their ass, but when you start asking for specifics and timelines it's clear they haven't the slightest clue as to context... like Mr 97k and 'Slowvalev' have always just been able to click their fingers and get who they wanted in the ring. Hell even top stars with the biggest promoters are often years in between quality opponents yet these two dudes with minor promoters who were virtually unknown til their 30s are somehow 'avoiding' fights despite both having fought most of the best guys in their respective divisions in the few years they've had near the top.

                      ****'s topsy-turvy, man.
