Whyte on fighting Usyk: Nobody knows who Usyk is

Right, but Whyte has done even less...I've seen his name but haven't seen him fight and have no desire to tbhHe’s stating the obvious really. Those on here like usyk and Ortiz but honestly talk to casuals and you find it very different. Bellew became more known only because he was fighting Haye and some fans know usyk because he then fought him; but not everyone transferred across to see Bellew vs usyk.
That doesn’t mean these fights won’t or can’t happen but realistically it isn’t going to be as commercially big as other fightsComment

I think Whyte is probably talking about the UK casual audience here - the folk who pay to watch his fights - in that context Ortiz is even less known than Usyk who some at least saw flattening Tony Bellew. You forget that only the UK enthusiasts like the dudes that post on here were up watching Wilder fight Ortiz at 5 or 6 am.He's right Usyk is an unknown but Luis Ortiz isn't. He has a much higher profile than Oleksandr Usyk. He's a man he should fight if he wants Wilder. Deontay already laid out the challenge. He told him to defeat Luis Ortiz and he will become his next opponent. He'll get the Wilder fight faster than Anthony Joshua.
The front runners to fight Usyk in his HW debut would seem to be Ortiz and Povetkin both of whom are well ranked (#5/6 ish) despite their age. Ortiz is probably better known in the US cos of Wilder, Povetkin better known in the UK cos of Joshua. Both are skilled and can **** but both also have stamina issues, which I'm sure Usyk will figure into his game plan... can't complain at either though.
Which one he fights may give us some clue as to which direction he intends to take (or which direction slick Eddie intends to steer him) next, although I'd be wary about reading too much into it.Last edited by Citizen Koba; 01-06-2019, 05:06 AM.Comment

WHyte has been ppv for his last two fights and believed to be at least top4 heavyweight now, and arguably ahead of wilder in third.
Regardless of his ranking position he hs built his own fan base which dictates he will be able to ppv against a number of opposition (probably not anyone like joshua)Comment

You smoking crack if you think Whyte is getting any closer to being undisputed as the other contenders are other than maybe Ortiz and Usyk!
Whyte is too sloppy and will pay the price when that thunderbolt from Wilder lands on his tiny head and AJ would mop him up again!
He just wants money fights and that’s all he should say!Comment

It be fair, there are only 2 active ppv fighters in UK. AJ and Whyte. Tyson will now make it 3. So he is not fighting on an undercard, and that means his opponent has to bring something to the table. Brazeale does because of the WBC mandatory. AJ v Miller and Hearn brings out for the cash for Brazeale and Whyte batters Wilder before AJ. This is the downside for Wilder so he will fight AJ this year.Comment

in as much as I agree you might be partially correct, you are also underestimating the power of that left hook. You smoking crack if you think Whyte is getting any closer to being undisputed as the other contenders are other than maybe Ortiz and Usyk!

Once landed flush it's good night.
Trust me, when whyte get holds of the green belt, there will be no rematch.
It's the undisputed, straight up.Comment

📊 Oleksandr Usyk’s K2 promoter Alex Krassyuk stated there is a 70% chance Usyk’s next fight will be a heavyweight debut against either Alexander Povetkin or Luis Ortiz. He claims Jarrell Miller and Joseph Parker already turned down the fight. [********* Info]
