Comments Thread For: Gervonta Davis-Abner Mares: Mismatch or Surprise in Making?

By Michael Rosenthal - LOS ANGELES Leonard Ellerbe, the promoter of Gervonta Davis, was speaking at a press conference to promote Davis' February 9 title defense against Abner Mares when he asked the overriding question going into the fight: "Did Abner Mares bite off more than he can chew?" The consensus answer to Ellerbe's question is "yes." And it's not difficult to understand why...

    Looking at the fight

You’d have to think Davis curb stomps Mares because of his youth , power and size

it’s a tall mountain to climb but I’m not going to write Mares off to make it at least competitive or get the W

He’s shown he still has plenty of
Gas in the tank against LSC , Proved everyone wrong against Cuellar and is the best fighter Tank has faced by miles

Tank treats his off season like his big brother Broner and isn’t focused 24/7 / 365 so while he appears to be the real deal he may not turn out to be

I’m one of the few actually looking forward to this fight

When has Mares ever surprised anyone? He's won the fights he was supposed to win(except against Jhonny) and lost the fights he was supposed to lose.

      He'll lose to Tank Davis.

Mares is just a high profile B level fighter, Tank smokes him in 6 rounds

Another mismatch of the highest order, but entertaining while it last.

This is going to be the second time Davis is going to KO/TKO a smaller fighter with a lost in their last fight who is going to wet his feet in the new weight division. I hope Davis step up and make unification happen, after he demolish Abner Mares. Also I don't like that Davis have not discipline, this was going to get the better of him in the future, If he don't change his bad habits.

Mares has too much Mexican in him, he plans to press a bigger man. When did he ever stick and move? I'm pretty sure it's not going to work.

On paper it is a mismatch, in reality it is a mismatch.

Tank should get the win easy, but somehow I feel that this one could be a stinker.
