Is Canelo deserving of “Legend” status at 28?

Mayweather is all time top 5 and although he was plenty experienced, Canelo was not yet in his prime. I don’t think that will count much against him as much as it’s just an all time great win by Mayweather.
For the record, I don’t think Canelo ever beats any near 100% Mayweather, And Mayweather was further from his prime than Canelo was when they fought, but if your only loss is to an all time top 5 guy and you then go onto dominate bigger divisions, it shouldn’t count against you much.
Canelo stepped up and fought the best of this generation, he deserves props for it overall.Comment

Wouldn't count as much losing to a top 5 all time great that is naturally around the same size as you.... But the fact that he got whooped by a top 5 all time great that was severely undersized certainly does count a lot against you.Last edited by HitmanTommy; 12-25-2018, 11:48 AM.Comment

To answer the question, yes.
To think he'll only be stacking up his resume with another 11 fights or so for DAZN and conclude that contract at the still young age of 33 is mind boggling.
You can tell Canelo is elite because he's been around forever now. He was facing top opposition in his early 20s.
Fighters today go deep into their 20s before they face anyone world class.Comment

Floyd is a legend despite there being people out there thinking some of his wins were “controversial”.
Pac is a legend despite some of his best wins being “controversial” and being stopped at the same age (or similar) Canelo was when he faced Floyd in addition to doing even worse against Floyd than Canelo.
It’s all a matter of perspective.
The Floyd haters will always say Floyd got Canelo green and weight drained and cherry picked all his wins and broke a record against an MMA fighter in his debut boxing match who isnt even the best boxer in his sport.
Some Pac haters will say he avoided “slick bruthas” and that its not like he won all those belts against the best champs and was also a product of good matchups.
Me, personally, I’d rather give them their props. Even if I dont agree with their every move, they at least made moves and I’ll be hard pressed to ever forget Floyd, Pac, and now Canelo. I dont hold that Floyd loss against Canelo too much. Floyd is a genius at they were both not at their best. To the extent that we may not have even seen the best of Canelo to this day. Floyd genius and style essentially allowed him to be around long enough to fight the next generation’s best, even if a little early. Props to both..one for taking it and the other for still being there for itLast edited by NearHypnos; 12-25-2018, 11:56 AM.Comment

He's a damn good fighter, that much isn't up for debate. He'll surely have a stellar resume when all is said and done. But that's where it gets me. Yes, he's good enough to keep fights competitive and has the chin to save from getting KO'd (for now, who knows down the line). People say he fights people some say he wouldn't. But if you were Canelo and you believe yourself and your chin that much, wouldn't you do the same? It's pretty much guaranteed he won't lose on the cards if it goes all 12. How much inherent risk is involved when everything is already stacked in your favor? This isn't some "hater" bull**** that some people like to respond with. I used to really the guy back in the day, before all these things happened the past several years. He'll probably be legendary, but I don't know how hollow that word will actually be when the time comes.Comment
