Boxing has a has huge culture in Mexico and among Mexican-Americans but aside from John Ruiz there haven't been many notable heavyweights.
Why has Mexico not provided many good heavyweights?

Thought about that myself. All I can figure? In South East Asia the golden division is around 160ish for Thai Boxing. They do not even care about the heavyweight division, but every kid wants to be the middle weight/Bantam weight champ. I think if we look at boxing over the world, the strong divisions are also the middle divisions. The heavyweight division is recognized as the kings of boxing in the American and European fan base.
why is this? Well the average size is bigger in certain areas of the world. In areas of the world where people are smaller, the important divisions become lighter. Mexican fight fans are smart enough to see that many of the best fighters are in the lighter divisions in Mexico, because of the average size of the population. Just as with the Thai Fighters.
Thats my take.Comment

That doesn't make any sense at all. Most of those well fed mother****ers would still only be 5'7 and far from a naturally HW body frame.Last edited by VatoMulatto; 12-23-2018, 06:42 PM.Comment
