For a title to be valid it has to be claimable. So, for example if I am knighted, I am claiming to abide by the laws of chivalry. If I am claiming to be the lineal champion my claim is that I beat the champ, the best.

The question is very simple. did Tyson Fury beat the best, the champion? Did he do it first? If so he can claim that title....simple!

I would argue Joshua defeated a more motivated Klitschko , I don't put much on a fictitious labeling. In truth a lineal title is not a solid object such as a 4 belt champion. I like Fury but to many angles here to put excessive value on.

If someone is lineal champion then people usually recognize them as such. I don’t think it is seen by a majority that Tyson fury remains lineal given the circumstances in which he has been involved in, namely - being suspended , retiring, putting on ridiculous weight and struggling against opponents ranked outside top100.

Not many really give fury much chance in the fight at the weekend either, really those wanting to be lineal are either fans of one of the fighters or have a marketing reason for it.

The real lineal champion will return when wilder and Joshua eventually meet.

Still it seems strange that a title can be dormant, and no-one else can be allowed to challenge for it, while the holder just sits on his butt for years without defending it.

it has alot to do with your previous comment that i quoted...and u know this...but you are deflecting...the pbc has given us very good WW fights and things can continue to heat up once thurman gets back between thurman, spence and porter

Lineal champs have been stripped/vacated throughout history. Stop being ******.

Lewis is not fighting professionally so there is not a conflict. If there was a problem where a guy who was retired came back and there was another guy who claimed the lineal there are ways that this could be resolved..

One way might be to see who beat the best first. Another way might be to see who beat the best most recently. Maybe one guy who was beat was better then the other guy who was beat . Yet another way would be to have more than one lineal until either both guys fought or one guy ceased fighting. And finally another possible way would be to call whoever was fighting on any given day between the two guys, the lineal champion.

But in this case there really is no conflict of this sort. Tyson's claiming a title that he got when he beat Klitschko before Joshua did.

It's not a perfect system Robbie... But it's always manage to be resolved and at times it has been an important distinction and that other times it hasn't really mattered. People are certainly entitled to not think much of the title.
