Y-E-S. How can he not be? His peers were among the best the HW division has ever seen and he still beat some of them and competed admirably against them all. I don't buy that "Oh HW are much bigger now, have better conditioning", yeah well an AJ in the 70s with the same resources as Ali, Frazier won't even be in the top ten - Ali, Frazier today with todays sports science would beat the **** out of Wilder and AJ. And no it's not nostalgia, so stop with the revisionist crap..not you TS...revisionists on here who always degenerate past greats because their current favourites look ****.

Yeah, I go with them over the current crop as well, man. Ali and Frazier damn near fought to the death and Frazier would have without question. That's major balls right there that most fighters of any era don't possess. Bigger doesn't always equal a victory. Lots of big guys have been crushed by smaller guys over the years.

"Smokin' Joe" was involved in and nearly won the Thrilla in Manila, one of the best heavyweight fights of all time. He defeated fellow ATG Muhammad Ali along with Jerry Quarry, Bob Foster, Jimmy Ellis, Buster Mathis and twice bested Oscar Bonavena. He also, of course, won a gold medal in the 1964 Olympics.

So, does this not qualify him as an ATG? I used to think everyone on here considered him as such but it seems that isn't so, in the case of one poster at least. What do you guys think? Yay or nay?
