Canelo just fought back-to-back fights against a man who
was considered by many to be the best pound-4-pound
boxer in the world, and who was favored to beat him.
Letting him take an optional defense after that is not
exactly protecting their 'cash cow'.
Had Golovkin beaten Canelo he would have had Charlo
waiting for him, so pitting the two against each other
makes more sense than an immediate rubber match
between Canelo & GGG. I know some people would prefer
if they just keep letting Golovkin fight Canelo over-&-over
until GGG finally manages to win, but that's not realistic or
likely to happen.

Letting him take an option defense is ok, but not changing the rules to suit Alvarez. If GGG won, does Charlo have to go through Alvarez? I doubt it. Canelo would just fight for another abc title next .

Jermall is the interim champion. That's supposed to mean he has the right to fight for the full title immediately, if he wants to.

The WBC can grant Canelo a voluntary defence before Charlo, if they see fit. But they have no business ordering Jermall to fight somebody else before he gets his shot!

First of all, your insecurities are on full blast! I do AGREE it's unfair that Canelo gets a voluntary defense when Charlo has been waiting for the winner of Canelo vs. GGG since 2017! CHARLO SHOULD NOT HAVE TO GO THROUGH GGG FOR CANELO! Secondly, I only said "purse bid" because the WBC "ordered" the fight to take place! I don't think Loeffler will want GGG to go fight Charlo in Houston, TX on Showtime! Lastly, "MAN UP!" In order for there to be a purse bid, GGG would need to be a WBC mandatory challenger, which he isn't.

Not exactly. He gave up the belt to make sure he will be in shape to fight Canelo. An injury in May against Derevyachenko=no fight with Canelo in September. Why take the risk? And if you think GGG was afraid of Derevyachenko, try to reduce the blinding hatred and think again.

It was a smart business decision on GGG's part. The Vanes fight was zero risk and more than offset the expenses incurred in preparation for the Cinco de Mayo fight with Canelo. But at the same time, it reinforced the idea that GGG feasts on lower level fighters and struggles with top-level fighters. Plus move destroys the idea that his cheerleaders advance that GGG is an all-time great who fights the best available fighters.
