Comments Thread For: Duran: Canelo Deserves Respect, Treated Like a Gringo in Mexico

I travel constantly to México and I have to call bulls**t on this, Canelo is a huge star back there, he has legions of fans and the general public embraces him deeply. The criticism comes mostly from the way he was hyped early in his career by the media and has nothing to do with the way he looks (which seems to actually help him rather than be a detriment). Nobody back there thinks of him as an outsider in any way, if anything the 2nd fight with Golovkin just earned him more respect. The criticism only gets bad when the media obsesses with comparing him with Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. (which let us be honest here, nobody can really live up to those expectations and only pisses people off, plus he is a completely different style of fighter). Standing on his own, he has plenty of respect.Comment

I noticed you threw old mosley, angulo and Kirkland in there as if you were impressed. And your bragging of him doing what no one else could seems a little fanboyish. Generous decisions from judges is no reason to celebrate. Jacobs fought ggg better than Canelo did either time.Canelo p4p top 5, did what no one else could which is beat the #1 middleweight at his own game and walked him down to boot while coming off a year layoff and surgery while only 1 fight in at 160!
Haters extra salty since 9/15/18
Would you like fries 🍟 with that salt?
