If I remember correctly Floyd was the one that was calling Winky out months ago before the Judah fight. How is Winky picking on a smaller fight when Floyd was the one running his mouth saying he'd move up 154 and beat him. -
I re-read and may misunderstood your quote, so that is my bad.Originally posted by PRboxingfanIt is an advantage to fight smaller guys. Is it not advantageous for Winky to fight Miguel Cotto as opposed to W. Klitschko? So, Miguel Cotto presents just as much of a threat to Winky as, say, James Toney? I don't think so but that's what you're saying.
Winky has ample fights to make at 160, including the rematch with Taylor which should come before him moving down in weight and fighting smaller guys. The fact is, he knows Taylor would beat him and thus is looking to get away from that fight.
Also, I never said Tony was the bottom of the barrel. I think he's the second best fighter at 147, behind only PBF. Tony's fought at 154 before and looked good doing it, but the fact still remains that Winky is picking on a smaller fighter.Comment

He can fight Felix Sturm or Kelly Pavlik, both in his same weight division. Hell, even Kingsley Ikeke, coming off a loss, would be a good match up.Originally posted by restless_438The other point you fail to think about is the Winky would have to make the weight, just as a Margarito would.... the situation seems to me to be considering Margarito as a last resort.
Okay, for adequate MONEY fights (which considering Wright has another 4-5 fights in him, it's what he's looking for), who is there (by name) in the middleweight division? Let's look in-depth at where the big names lie:
Super Middleweight 168:
*Joe Calzaghe (unfortunately not a huge draw in America)
*Jeff Lacy (duh, not fighting a friend in his own camp)
*Now this leaves WHO in this division with a money draw... Anthony Mundine??
*Mikkel Kessler & Markus Beyer (Kessler and Beyer are included as fighters who, regardless of talent, most in America don't know)
Middleweight 160:
*rematch with Taylor (Taylor's people have said they want a tune-up before the rematch)
*Arthur Abraham (it can't be that big a payday when not enough people know who Abraham is, regardless of his talent)
*In short, other than Taylor, there are virtually NO "name" fighters in the division that will provide an adequate payday
Junior Middleweight 154:
*Oscar De La Hoya (as i'm sure everyone knows, made the statement, "No fight in 2006")
*Kassim Ouma & Roman Karmazin (not a "name" = not a big payday)
*Shane Mosley (the point of schooling a third time?)
*Fernando Vargas (Wright won't fight him again after their first meeting)
Welterweight 147:
*Floyd Mayweather (not looking to fight Wright right now)
*Ricky Hatton (big money fight?)
*Antonio Margarito (just got turned down as well by Mayweather, and the schedule looks clear, why not)
So as you can see, currently, the biggest (and most profitable) names lie in the "middle" weight divisions of boxing. There's nothing much in Wright's current division and if he has to make a choice of "up or down", it's gotta be down if he wants money.
I know Floyd was calling him out, but there is a difference there. I really don't think Floyd wanted to fight Winky unless he was going to make DLH-type of money for that fight. Floyd has barely grown into his Welter body, how would he handle Winky at 154? I mean, I know Winky is feather-fisted and all, but still...Comment

Zab fought the best fight of his life versus Floyd, so there's an A class opponent for Floyd at Welter.Originally posted by BigSlickI am a big believer in Mayweather and he has a superb fight record at lightweight his competition was truely A+; Genaro, Corrales, Castillo, Corley, etc. But his welterweight fights have been against subpar competition for someone for his level. And yes Zab is not an A class fighter, he has A class talent but his mental handicaps place him below that level.
Winky has fought the best competition in his weightclass barring B-Hop, 2 dominating wins against Mosley, a flawless execution of Trinidad and two very debatable fights between Vargas and Taylor, who many thought he deserved the bout.
I have Winky number one on my P4P list untill further notice on Mayweather.Comment

Floyd and his team say they got a better offer than that 8 million Arum was offering and we dont know what was included in that deal, he might had to sign back on with Arum for 2 or 3 years. until Floyd fights someone for less $$, he aint dodging. And I dont think no one said Margarito doesn't deserve a shot, of course he does, Im saying it will be a massacre and margarito will be labeled a bum after Floyd destroys him in Corrales fashion. No matter who he fights right now, they all gon look subpar. Just like the best Zab did!!Originally posted by jai mari078Floyd says that he will fight anyone for the right money. I can understand him not wanting to fight Marg the first time and wanting to wait on Oscar, but that fight isn't going to happen for now. Outside of Oscar, 8 million is the most money he is going to make. I don't want to hear this **** that Marg is not a A level fighter and that he has never beaten any quality opposition. Lets talk about Zab(talk about someone who has never beaten quality opposition and he still got the fight right after the loss to Baldomir) Floyd says he would beat Marg easily. I'm not saying he couldn't win, but man up and prove everyone wrong, and stop saying he'll do it if the money is right because this would be the most money he has ever fought for. P4P means fighting all comers and not making excuses. You can't tske that away from Winky, because he has and will fight everyone. He may not have won every fight pretty, or even won every fight but he was at least man enough to step up and take on all comers. That is P4P.Comment

Im keep hearing Floyd only fought top opposition at 135 which was about 4 yrs ago or so. when he moved to 140 and beat Gatti in front of Cotto and Hatton, neither of them wanted it, u could see it in their faces. So therefore he had to beat up on a couple c class fighters just to stay active. He fought Bruseles in order to fight Gatti, thats the only reason. He then moves to 147 to fight Zab because he was talking slick, and took Sharmba as warm up to get ready for Zab. Actually he was supposed to fight Zab the night he fought Mitchell, but $$$ hurt the negotiating. But my point is that u cant knock Floyd for the top opposition at 140 dodging him. If they dont sign the contract to fight, there will be no fight. He has only fought at 147 twice, just this year. give him atleast a couple yrs to get threw all the opposition at welterweight. Winky has pretty much always been around 154 lbs, of course he would be able to take out his oppostion, he been there for years.Comment

Zab is not an A class opponent. Like Big Slick said he may have A class talent, but mentally he has never been able to put it together, and who has Zab ever beaten to be considered A class. Don't throw feather fisted Corey Spinks at me. Everytime Zab has fought quality opposition he melts down, and than gets beat by Baldomir right before the Floyd fight PLEASE!!! He is not A class by any means.Originally posted by DoubleZab fought the best fight of his life versus Floyd, so there's an A class opponent for Floyd at Welter.Comment

Soliman is nobody, anybody else would have handled him easy, but i give him the benefit of the doubt that he was sick that day. mosley and trinidad are great wins, but they are welterweights that moved up and they both were not champs when he fought them I think, i know trinidad wasn't. neither one of those was in their primes or the elite when he fought them. Im not trying to diss wink, he nice, he just doesnt win like Floyd. Floyd has made two of the poeple on your list look subpar. how many has wink made look subpar.Originally posted by ctw1121WINKY IS THE BEST BECAUSE HE WILL FIGHT ANYBODY ANY TIME ANY WHERE HE HAS FOUGHT BETTER FIGHTERS THAN ANYONE ALL OF HIS LAST FIGHTS ARE AGAINGST HALL OF FAMERS OR NUMBER ONE CONTENDERS WINK CANT PICK AND CHOOSE HIS FIGHTS HE HAS HAD 7 STRAIGHT TUFF FIGHTS CANDELO,HERNANDEZ,MOSELY1&2,TRINADAD,SOLIMAN AND TAYLOR ANYBODY WHO REALLY FOLLOWS BOXING WILL KNOW THESE ARE AALL SOLID FIGHTERS THATS ONE OF THE REASONS HE DOES NOT KNOCK PEOPLE OUT GOOD FIGHTERS ARE HARD TO KNOCK OUT I LOVE FLOYD BUT I WILL TAKE WINK NUMBER #1

I'll agree with you that Mosley was small at 154, but Tito was legit at 160, he killed himself for years trying to make weight at 147. 154 was probably a better weight for him, but he was still strong at 160, and I hate Tito so it's not like I am trying to give him any kind of props. You say that he made Corrales and Castillo look subpar. I'll give you Corrales, but Castillo won one of those fights regardless if he got the decision or not. Everyone keeps talking about Corrales and Castillo, but how long ago was that? What has he done lately to be considered p4p compared to Winky. He fought an old beat down Gatti, and Zab Judah who has never beaten quality opposition, coming off a loss to Baldomir. Judah is not an A class opponent. He has the speed and power, but mentally has never been able to put it together. Everytime he is in a big fight he melts down, and don't throw feather fisted Spinks at me either. Winky beat Mosely twice smaller or not, completely embarased Tito, and had it not been for taking the 12th off beat Taylor, when Taylor was clearly the bigger stronger guy. Even without the 12th you can make an argument that Winky won the fight. I really don't see how you could give Taylor the 12th because he didn't do anything either. It should have been an even round.Originally posted by cortdawg25Soliman is nobody, anybody else would have handled him easy, but i give him the benefit of the doubt that he was sick that day. mosley and trinidad are great wins, but they are welterweights that moved up and they both were not champs when he fought them I think, i know trinidad wasn't. neither one of those was in their primes or the elite when he fought them.
