It’s not a gimmick if you can back it up

Nelo to me will always be a spoiled pampered bully built up to be a PPV superstar.

I've been to four GGG fights (two at Stub Hub, two at the Forum) and the vast majority of fans were Mexican and those venues sold well (Forum each time sold more than Marquez-Alvarado), Rubio was a sell out too. I'd see a few Kazakh fans, a few white and black fans but more than 80% were Mexican at each show. Maybe as much as 90%.
De La Hoya is a gimmick and a gay one. Fishnets, utensils, trying to hog the attention on fight week for Mayweather-Canelo with his last minute fake rehab trip, his trying to make Canelo-McGregor calling it the "only fight that needs to happen" to then crying when Mayweather-McGregor was signed etc; etc;Comment

I hate to admit it but I agree with Oscar only because I posted on here before he said that. I basically said in an earlier post that GGG says that because he is trying to draw in more Mexican fans and trying to encourage Canelo to stand in front of him. The talk & baiting coming from GGG’s camp is pretty obvious.
Where I disagree with Oscar is he made it seem like HE beat a lot of great fighters or the best out there. I’m looking at his 39-6 resume and I just see wins against a few great fighters.
He beat Chavez when he was 34 years old after he had already lost to Randall and “arguably” Pernell Whittaker. He had a good win against Ike Quartey, I will give him that. He lost to Trinidad, a fight he should have won except he started back pedaling towards the end. He beat Gatti who had already lost to Ivan Robinson twice and Angel Manfredy. He has (2) losses against Shane Mosley. He has other losses to Bernard Hopkins, Manny, and Floyd.
He has a win against Whitaker that should have been objectively a draw or win for Whitaker. But it’s on his record so we have to give him credit for it. He beat a 35 year old Hector Camacho. I see wins against Fernado Vargas, Felix Sturm, and Ricardo Mayorga.
Can someone help me please. Based on who he specifically faced and beat, I see only (2) great wins in his entire career. And I am looking at HOF caliber of fighters and P4P fighters in their peak or prime when he faced them. I have Pernell Whitaker & Ike Quartey. And (6) losses. I’m sorry, not a lot of “GREAT WINS,” not a great fighter.Last edited by markther; 08-16-2018, 10:08 AM.Comment

He is not neccesarily remembered for beating everyone he fought but he is more remembered for NEVER ducking a fight. He fought ALL of the very best and to have only 6 losses after a resume like his is a great accomplishment.
In his defense He was screwed against Trinidad which you even admit to and he was screwed in the 2nd mosely fight. Both fights he should have won. IMO Chavez was still Chavez when De la hoya beat him, He outworked Whitaker, He KO'd his rival fernando Vargas, and he beat a prime Ike Quartey. And this is all after winning Gold in the olympics!
say what you want about the fishnets and shady promotion issues but De la Hoya was a G when it came to actually fighting. Cant take that away from him.Comment
