How highly do you rate Wilder's win against Ortiz?

One guy took two punches in the space of a few seconds and had an eight count.no thats the entire reason it was bogus. when ortiz was hurt they didn't lift a finger to "check him out" when wilder might have needed time they gave it to him. its classic a-side behavior manipulating the rules to their favor and it tainted the fight but as long as you get the win no one cares about hte rules. just look at wards career...
The other guy took a 45 second barrage of powershots, the same type of sustained punishment that led to the NY State Athletic Commission instituting the rule in the first place.
I completely understand a ring side doctor making the decisions made both at the beginning of rd 6 and the start of rd 8, tho as I said I don't necessarily agree with them.
Further, it's clear to me that Wilder was ready to go before the extra 20 seconds, just as Ortiz was fine after his knockdown.
The outcome of the fight was not affected in my opinion, but Ortiz is free to think so.
As for Ward, his career will be appreciated the longer time goes on. His style was legal, and actually one often praised in this forum when done by fighters far less skilled than Andre.Comment

A great fight for action, strategy, and momentum swings. A huge victory for Wilder. A great showing (even in a loss) for Ortiz. As far as Ortiz's detractors, until someone else beats him (or even fights him), all the "Ortiz is old, etc " is just noise. If any of that made a difference Ortiz would be being sought, and beat by everyone trying to move up. He remains the most avoided active heavyweight. Few will even try it if they don't have to. That says it all per Ortiz age, ability, skills, etc.
A very good fight, a good win for Wilder, and if you gonna hate then get in the ring and show us how weak Ortiz is. You or your favorites ...

It was a good win over a top 5 contender but he was damn near knocked out and got some extra recovery time from the referee. Wilder has a beautiful straight right on those rare times when he throws it straight. I think his long fast crushing straight right will knock Fury out. Average punching Cunningham badly hurt Fury and dropped him for a 6 or 7 count. Wilder has a much faster harder right than Cunningham and I think at some point in the fight he lands it flush on Fury and knocks him out. Ortiz hits much harder than Fury and Wilder survived his best attack. I think Wilder can take Fury's power. AJ might be a different story.Comment

I was mostly impressed with the way the ref allowed Wilder to recover before continuing. And I'm also impressed at how Wilder fans are saying that it was the best fight since Fury beating Klitschko, which was an eyesore of a fight. Wilder almost lost to a 40 year old on heart medication hahahaa. In his only decent fight out of 40. But yeah, go on pumping him up because he will get KOed within the year...book it nowComment

I feel pretty much the same way. I admire his courage, he didn't come out after being rocked all timid - he was like a wounded animal and showed tons of heart.Comment

It's the best win anyone has had at heavyweight since Fury beat Wlad (who I maintain was toast by that point, but Fury dethroned the king).
Ortiz is a rare beast. He's a defensively sound, intelligent southpaw with knockout power. You don't see that at heavyweight. You can count the number of decent, well rounded southpaw heavyweights in my lifetime on one hand, and I'm pushing 30.
That's why nobody wanted to fight him, that's why he gave Wilder so much trouble. Ortiz was consistently able to disrupt Wilder's jab and thus the timing on his best combination, his 1-2 jab-straight right.
Fury may be able to avoid Wilder's punches for a while but Wilder has better cardio than prime Fury, let alone current Fury. And Fury will land on Wilder, but unlike Ortiz he doesn't have the power to hurt Wilder.
If Fury comes into this fight in fantastic shape and sharp skills, he may win 7-10 rounds in a row before he gets knocked out.
If Fury comes into the fight sluggish in any way, Wilder puts him to sleep inside 5.
Either way, Fury is getting knocked out.
Fury has never showed a bad tank and has gone the distance much more than wilder what gives you the impression wilder has better cardio than prime fury? fury has one hell of an engine, he constantly moves, throws light fast punches and upper body and head movement as well that uses a lot of energyComment
