HBO is just a flat out bigger network with 30% more subscribers. They have a built in audience that will be tuning into HBO on Saturday nights regardless if there is boxing on or not. And if there is boxing on, some of those folks will tune in. That is why when Wilder does 1.2 million against Ortiz it is super impressive. He did that going up against a Kovalev headlined card.Comment

HBO also forces you to watch live. Boxing isn't on their app.
Showtime doesn't. I haven't watched a fight on TV on Showtime in more than a year.Comment

True. Notice that ESPN hasn't been releasing the app numbers. My guess is its a little bit difficult to calculate, although you'd think it wouldn't be so hard in this day and age.
I think the networks might be artificially lowering the numbers to keep fighter purses down. It is just hard to fathom that Broner pulls in such high numbers and better fighters in better fights don't.
Kind of like how back in the day they used to say that "ratings" never took into account households with more than one televisionComment

I've actually decided to invest in ESPN+ (maybe DAZN once Prograis fights) and want to cancel my cable provider, but they get you with the Wi-Fi connection lolComment

HBOs app (although no boxing) will allow it.
It'll be interesting to see what DAZN does.Comment

It's dead for the simple fact they hardly invest in boxing anymore. Look at their schedule this year and how few and far between the cards have been. SHO has been killing it, while HBO will occasionally give you a card here and there. HBO just may think investing in boxing is a waste of time and it makes more sense to throw money at hit shows like Game of Thrones or what not.Comment

I wish someone would be asking guys like Espinoza these questions.Comment

(I only note that point because they will frequently highlight "total weekly" views across all platforms for shows.)Comment

HBO has more subscribers than Showtime. Keep in mind that the only way to watch fights on HBO is to actually tune to their channel via your cable company. You can't watch their fights via a live stream on their app. You could stream a live HBO fight via the Direct TV app, however those views get counted because you are watching via DirectTV. I've been watching Showtime boxing through their app for the past 2 years.Comment
