No, he should hope Jacobs wins the IBF belt and then try to set up a unification with Saunders and then a rematch with Jacobs after the Canelo fight. Those would be the biggest money fights left for Golovkin and it could set him up to retire the undisputed WBA (Super)/WBC/IBF/IBO/WBO/Ring/lineal champion. If he took out Canelo, Saunders, and Jacobs in three straight fights at the end of his career to become undisputed, that would put him right up there with the all-time middleweights. He's already the best of his era.

Of course that's much easier said than done. But he still has business at middleweight, and he's nearing the end of his days as a top level fighter. Abel Sanchez himself said he thinks Golovkin probably has 4-5 big fights left in him. That's 2-3 years.

He is a middleweight. That is his natural fighting weight. Middleweight is a better and more prestigious weight class with better fighters and more money to be made. Why would he move up to a weight class he doesn't belong in to fight bigger stronger harder hitting men for less money. His haters want him to move up in hopes that a 168 pound boxer might beat him when no middleweight can. Ward had nothing to do with GGG not going to 168. Ward made his media call out for GGG to fight him at 168 when GGG had a contracted fight with Lemieux and was legally bound to go through with that fight or face a law suit. By the time GGG had KOed Lemieux Ward had already outgrown 168 and was fighting at 175. Any possible fight between Ward and GGG was history. Ward lovers and GGG haters love to make a big deal over this publicity stunt by Ward that worked so well for him with some fans.

In this day and age, everyone gets a strap. Keeping it might be more impressive.

Being the undisputed MW king is awesome. Some weight classes are also worth staying in due to history and proximity to talent coming to you.

Give me a long period of dominance over a ******ed fight like Pac-Marg. It’s more common to see a guy move up and fight a weak champ for the title than it is to see lineal vs lineal.

Anyway...moving up or staying put isnt always better than the other.
How about being as dominant in a higher weight class? Floyd mayweather esque

But then you open yourself up to that same criticism of fighting the right guys in the division at the right time.

People still b itch about how he never fought Marg or Paul Williams or Canelo at 54, or a younger Oscar, younger Pac, etc. Floyd, for all his genius, will always first and foremost be known as the business man who picked his oponents when it was most favourable for hum. Fairly or unfairly, that’s a different argument that I personally won’t agree or disagree with at this moment.

When a guy dominates a weight class for a long period of time it leaves absolutely no doubt as to the king. None.

It’s also impressive for a guy to move up and fight the best at the new divisions but when you’re closer to 40 like GGG, aren’t on a real diet and have zero issues making weight, that’s your body telling you it’s where you belong. He’s not gonna have a 40 year old growth spurt nor should he mess with something that isn’t broken. He’s a machine at 160 and I’m totally fine with not messing with whats not broken. He’s a well oiled machine that should keep doing what hes doing because thats one of the reasons he’s had that success. At his size, it literally wouldnt make sense nor add anything. Plus.. it’s one of the historic divisions.

Be the undisputed king at 160 is amazing and not a crown one should consider relinquishing imo.

Golovkin should be thinking of retiring after the next fight or two.

How many good 36 year old fighters can you think of? And how many of those eat punches to give punches? That's not a good boxing style for aging.

If he dont retire after canelito whoops his ass then he will move up to 168 to fight the cans over there. Too many lions at 160

If he waits to retire until after Canelo whips his ass he will be on Social Security.

Golovkin would be a fool to move up now. After this fight there are some lucrative matchups at 160. There is Murata in Japan, Saunders, the winner of Drev and Jacobs and perhaps Charlo. That is if Charlo beats someone with a pulse at Middle.
