I think it's a valid point that Ward "retired" because he does not want to defend his title in the LHW division. Is that his right? Yes, it is but it still makes his retirement a sham. (Sham, noun 1- a thing that is not what it is purported to be.)

Kov did not quit! Weeks capped off his dreadful performance as a referee by stopping the fight for real instead of stopping the fight for Kovalev to recover after being fouled.

    That is all...

keep in mind that i'm probably the biggest andre ward fan this forum has ever seen.
If you think anyone still believes that after you bashed the guy (because you thought he was going to lose the rematch so you abandoned ship) then yes, you should be embarrassed. But, you don't have the sense to understand why you should be.

i was at the first kovalev fight and i thought kovalev won, the majority of the audience did, but that fight was close and no robbery! and anybody who thinks it was a robbery has no business scoring a boxing match!

the second fight was decided by a series of low blows, and i did think that there were enough low blows to warrant points being taken, but ward had kovalev completely figured out and was beating him pillar to post. there was no question, with or without low blows, who was winning that fight.

Does it matter even if that was true?

At the end of the day, imagine he stayed around and beat Bivol and everyone else then retired, there would be someone else coming on the scene that they say he should fight or he's avoiding. You could never retire if you had to stay around and fight every new fighter on the scene.

... Wants to fight Buglioni?... well, there isn't big money for him in the U.S.
... maybe he needs a tune up in order for that Bellew fight in the U.K.

In today's world, I salute anyone who can call the shots. Be a freelancer. Retire and un-retire as you choose, if you are able to do so.

I suspect Ward will fight again, and I think he will do so on his own terms. I'm not a fan, but I respect him on that level.

I suspect he may be pulling a Floyd--retire in your prime and wait out the storm while all of the hungry lions devour one another--then come back and clean up the scraps.
