And you're wrong, fighting Deverechenko on May 5th could have jeopardized that fight because I'm not sure that GGG wins that fight and he certainly comes out of it taking punishment. If he takes a bad cut or suffers an injury in a win it jeopardizes the September fight. Fighting a slickster like Andrade could or Charlo could have jeopardized it because he's not a lock to win those either. I wrote in my original post that publicly danding 50/50 was a bad call especially when you don't have the leverage to back it up.

He has less leverage today then he did 2 days ago. Why should Oscar give him 40% when he just shot himself in the foot and has 1 less belt and wasted their time for weeks? It's simple he has to fight charlo who his own trainer is crying about or agree to whatever terms Oscar gives him now. I think it’s HBO. Outside of the PPV with Canelo, HBO hasn’t gotten a very good return on their GGG investment. He’s bombed on two PPVs. And technically, he didn’t do much more on his PPV with Canelo than Chavez Jr did.

And I 100% agree with you about GGG trying to backdoor into Hopkins record. First, I think the record is extremely overrated. If Roy Jones had stayed at middleweight, we may not even know who Bernard Hopkins is. Secondly, Hopkins beat a lot of weak opposition and waited for welterweights to come to him. As poor as his comp was, it was still better than GGG’s.

Which brings me to my final point. HBO might as well change its name to GBPTV when it comes to boxing. Hopkins is a big wig at GBP. Which also makes him a big wig at HBO. There’s a chance Hopkins doesn’t want his record backed into. And he pulled some power moves to make GGG’s road as difficult as possible.

Why does Canelo even give Golovkin 35%, nevermind the 40%, at this point?

Golovkin just lost the IBF belt, and is now under pressure to fight Jermall Charlo if he doesn't take Alvarez's deal (big, strong, long, has shown pop at the weight, and is just on the cusp of physically peaking, taking on a fighter who is clearly on the other side).

Alvarez-Jacobs is a big enough event to possibly get 1m homes on PPV, in addition to the MGM Resorts take, so it's not like Alvarez is hurting for money.
