It wasn't until Wilder with the indomitable fortitude who came along and gave him a voluntary title shot. If anything that was more impressive of him had he never laid a single glove on King Kong in the first place.
.... and to answer your first question, the fight never happened because ortiz looked so poor on his sky sports outings that it killed any interest when they were trying to build the fight. thats honestly the truth of it as a uk fan who saw the reaction. think they showed the malik scott fight and then it took him 7 rounds to stop allen who he was really meant to get rid of in 1 or 2 rounds, however durable he is.

I don’t think he was overly impressive in that fight, I thought he would blow Ortiz away but he made harder work of it. And no offence to Ortiz but he fought Wilder with typical boxing basics. But Wilder definitely prove he can be taken to bottom and rise up before he gets drowned.

Thompson was shot to pieces and came in at short notice. The win meant less than nothing. At least Fury and Ruiz were fresh and decent. The same can not be said for that version of Thompson.
