I hate that I have to have this debate! I love watching Lomachenko do his thing! It's beautiful! However, when we start asking "Have we ever seen anything like this," we start going to places that we shouldn't, when we're talking about a guy with 12 fights, and who started at 25!

He had a 5 yr prime. Is what it is
Of the Lewis, Holyfield, Tyson trio, Mike is the youngest. And he’s significantly younger than Holyfield, almost four years.

And you’re right, Holyfield made his debut in the division around the peak of Mike’s career. But that kinda hammers home my point. There was actually never a time when Tyson should have been ripe for Holyfield to pick him. Holyfield was kinda seen as past it when they finally did fight. And Mike couldn’t compete with him.

As for Lewis, we’ll have to agree to disagree. I think Lewis would have always been a tough out for Mike. Lewis was kinda like Lomachencko in that he had an extended amateur career. So when Mike was at his peak, Lewis was still an amateur. But he is Mike’s age, technically a little older. So when they fought, it’s not like LL was 25 catching a 35yr old Tyson. And LL only fought one more time after Mike, and didn’t exactly look great Vitali. So Mike was getting dusted by guys his age or older in Lewis and Holyfield.

If Loma had turned pro before he was 25, maybe we would've seen him fight the best of this era, Pacquiao, Garcia, and Crawford! I know Mike failed later in life, and we all know why! I'm just saying that Mike accomplished more before 25, then most fighters accomplish in a lifetime! I'm 50+ years old! I've seen a lot! Mike was the biggest thing in sports before he went to prison! I can't put into words how much of a star he was! You had to be there! Loma is a great boxer, Mike Tyson was boxing!

I was there. Mike’s the reason I’m a fight fan. I know how big a star he was. I’m not denying his star power. I’m denying his greatness as a fighter. I’ve had the Tyson debate hundreds of times. I don’t understand how people kinda dismiss his failures as things that had almost nothing to do with boxing. He didn’t lose to Douglas because of Robin Givens or any of that other nonsense. He lost because he couldn’t figure out the jab, jab, half a step back straight right hand combo Douglas hit him with throughout the fight. People say prison ruined him. I don’t know what prison does to an athlete. I’ve been for a couple years. And it did my body wonders. I know people that have been to prison for several years, and they look about ten years younger than most people their age. My two cents is that most folks can’t sustain the bad habits in there like they can on the outside. The drugs and everything else are too expensive. Obviously for someone like Mike, he could afford to maintain his vices a little better than most while incarcerated. Even at that, I don’t think that gives him a free pass on not being competitive with the best of his era when he fought them.

He's good no doubt but this article is over the top. IMO. Couple that with the disgraceful commentary in his last fight and it's turning people off. Linares was turned from a good fighter trying to win into a mere prop by Joe Tessatore.

Floyd would've never lost to a guy of salido's caliber whether it was his first or 50th fight. Is Loma great and entertaining? Absolutely, not arguing that. But Floyd beat 8 current world champs in 8 consecutive fights. Let Loma beat at least one future HOF before we go all in on him.

                    • I am going to say it twice and you idiots that don’t know boxing can quote me on it . Loma can’t grind, salido already prove that, loma hasn’t shown me anything, maybe I am not easily impressed but I just don’t see a tommy hearns ,Duran, may weather or a Chavez snr caliber type fighter etc . I am going to say it again loma can’t grind and when gets in that position again he is going to get crushed again.
