The Vanes fight is unsanctioned so he should be stripped under the IBF rules regardless of what deal he's made.

I don't think he will be stripped. The IBF will accept the short-notice justification. The deal is probably that the next fight either has to be Canelo (which is of course also in the interest of the IBF) or Derevyanchenko in September.

      • So he is a middleweight champ and he fights a guy that is:

        1. jr. middleweight
        2. coming from a loss
        3. has never been a world champ, not even at 154

        Pathetic. Disgusting cherry pick.

Has that been clarified? That's what they were saying yesterday, but some of the articles announcing the Vanes fight said the fight was sanctioned.

Again, if it wasn't, Lou would be going ballistic right now. So I'd be willing to bet a deal was reached with both Dibella and the IBF.

Exactly. Stay busy fight. Agree with the rest too. Lost respect for Canelo.

                • People writing off vanes, and that guy was supposed to have a draw or win against charlo who people here think is a monster, Lara was on his bicycle the whole fight, even when I do believe GGG will win I know this guy comes to fight, and fights in a way that is great for fans, a strong puncher who likes to brawl and go forward, so Golovkin having that style also will make for a good fight, that they should have chosen a MW fighter, probably yes, but also they are thinking on the future fight, Canelo or Saunders that by any means would be easy fights, so this fight should be a stay busy fight with a good boxer, but the thing is that choosing Vanes could prove difficult for GGG because they guy can punch and box, also can take punches.

                  • In true pussie g fashion. Man this dude is the biggest fraud in the past 25 years in boxing. Crying like a bytch what did Lara do at 160? Charlo? Andrade? YET is bringing up a 154 pound fighter with a 2 year lay off and an L in his last fight.

I pray Canelo doesn't fight this pusssie in September so Charlo or another young blood can take his fuuucking head off and get rid of this clown. Pusssie g is the definition of a bytch

LA Times reporting that IBF is not sanctioning it but will not strip GGG. But Fat Boy Dan reporting that he is still at risk of being stripped. Will have to wait and see when the IBF officially releases a statement. But they notified GGG by letter yesterday that they do not accept Vanes as a worthy opponent and will not sanction it so that part is already official.

While Golovkin will defend his WBA and WBC titles in the fight, he faces the prospect of being stripped by the IBF, which deems Martirosyan unworthy of challenging for the title and has declined to sanction the fight. Loeffler plans to file for an exception.
