he took a ton of flush, hard shots and got destroyed by antonio freaking demarco. that fight wasn't just a product of cuts. it was a product of a polished guy getting outlasted until the polish wore off, and his vulnerabilites, his instincts when he's hurt and his chin, got exposed.

what's he going to do against the best boxer in the world if he's getting tagged in the late rounds by antonio demarco?

Antonio Demarco is 5'10 he now fights at welterweight. Lomachenko is a natural featherweight. That Demarco fight should actually be a good example to you of what can happen to the more talented guy when he fights some naturally bigger than him. What Linares struggled to do against Demarco, Loma will be trying to accomplish vs Linares, being the smaller man, except Loma is trying to do it against a much faster, more talented boxer in Linares than Linares tried to against Demarco. Linares also has more power at lightweight than Demarco does at welterweight, which is to say that if the size difference between Loma and Linares and Linares and Demarco is equal, and Lomachenko is now fighting two divisions above his natural division just like Linares was fighting an opponent naturally two divisions bigger than him in Demarco, then Lomachenko is now also facing more power, in addition to speed, relative to his natural size than Linares did vs Demarco, and yet you saw what even that did to Linares.

So if anything, that should tell you the challenge Lomachenko is taking on here, and the danger. Weight jumping is no joke when you're not starting out at an artificially low weight like weight bullies do. Lomachenko started out as an average sized featherweight at best, far smaller than the biggest ones like Mikey or even Salido, so for him to move up is nowhere near the same thing as say Crawford moving up who started artificially low.

That was young Linares. Those guys you are talking about were all way bigger than Lomachenko too. It's not just that Linares is good, it's that his one major weakness (chin) is not really appicable to Lomachenko's style to start with, combined with the fact he is also much bigger than Lomachenko. This is what so many Floyd fans for example never understood
