Ortiz's strategy was to catch Wilder coming in with a counter. For the first half of the fight Wilder was able to avoid those counters and did catch Ortiz. It took a short right hand counter from Ortiz to catch Wilder as he was coming in. After that the fight turned into a war. You also have to give it up to Wilder for avoiding getting hurt more and bouncing back the way he did.

Joshua-Klitschko was more drama, but I disagree that Wilder-Ortiz was less substance.
Wilder showed heart and will to win. But I think he survived mainly because Ortiz lost his cool when he had him hurt and started flailing and smothering his own punches. Then he ran out of steam and, because of his age and poor condition, had no second wind to find afterwards.

These guys did not feel the power of the 'Bronze-Bomber' -- its not fair : Luis Ortiz had to dig deeper than Mairis Briedis and Yunier Dorticos, each blow from Deontay must of felt like Thor's hammer on the skull! Then we can talk about Wilder being massively outweighed coming in only 214 ( sick) , compared to a 241 seasoned veteran undefeated KO artist Luis Ortiz.

Drawing over a million views on Showtime! numbers that A.J only dreams of. I respect your opinion Kafkod but Deontay vs. Ortiz is my pick.

AJ vs Klitschko was better but both were good and I'm just glad we finally have some good competitive fights at HW.

HW boxing has been painful as **** to watch since Lewis vs Vitali.

Wilders fight was good but AJs fight was exceptional in comparison. Plus aj's also has the kudos of reigniting the worlds interest once more in the hw division.

Lol .. that's funny, I have to think you are taking the piss there!

AJ vs Wlad was watched by over 10million live in Germany alone, and 1.5million on PPV in the UK.

Seriously doe .. Wilder fans are massively overrating Ortiz. He was a B level Cuban amateur who never got anywhere near World Championship or Olympic success, and his best win as a pro was Jennings, nearly 3 years ago.

Yeah, he was a lot heavier than Wilder - but middle-age spread never won anybody a world boxing title!

Imo, he mentally gave up hope of winning after blowing himself out in the 5th and comparing him to Dorticos for heart and will power is a travesty.

the brits are starting to fear wilder, which is pretty hysterical when you think about it.

You want to see a fan base running scared?

Wait till AJ vs Wilder gets signed and the build up begins then watch the **** all jumping off that sinking Wilder hype ship!

Seriously - if was promoting a fight between AJ and Wilder and I wanted to maximise the income from both sides of the Altantic, I would have Wilder KTFO of a Brit in a voluntary defence in the UK and AJ do the same thing to a yank in the US. Then I would pit them against each other.

You're right. Ortiz definitely let up his attack. I believe he also recognized or was worried that Wilder had recovered and didn't want to risk getting hurt again. Like I said, they were both trying to outthink each other.
