I hate Hopkins and don’t mind Toney and Roy Jones is the GOAT. That being said, Hopkins definitely beats Toney. They were both tough, but Bernard walked through Roy’s punches and never cowered. Tony was very bothered by Roy’s punches, and was hurt by them.

Moral of the story. Bernard was tougher than Toney and would of out worked him to a 7-5 12 round grind out fight.

I was at the Toney-Nunn fight in a AAA baseball diamond in Davenport Iowa. What a great fight it was! Toney was the beginning of the end for Nunns career. Met Angelo Dundee as well. What a trainer! Toney is definitely one of the GOAT. Another fighter whose achievements eclipse Mayweather's. Many people on this site became fans of boxing because of Mayweather and know very little about the Greats and future GOATs in the 80's and 90's. Nunn was exceptional but Toney blew him out of his shoes. Unfortunately, Toney just like RJJ stayed too long. You need to look past that and look at what he did and how he did it.

I agree. Although rjj and toney will be judged by their perceived primes. Like everyone else in history. I think guys should fight as long as they feel like it. The history books always puts everything into perspective unlike what some ppl on here believe.

Hopkins was still developing in '93 when he fought Jones. Let's remember though, only 18 months later, Jones then fought Toney, and if anything, he dealt with Toney easier than Hopkins. And that was prime undefeated Toney.

Toney may have beaten Hopkins in early or mid 90's though.

I think that Hopkins continued to improve, and once we had the late 90's and afterwards version of Hopkins, I think that would be too close to call.

Toney was great, but he could switch off in fights, even in his prime.

I Definitely don't think Toney was in a different league to that Hopkins, even though he may have been more entertaining with his skills.

Shame we never saw that one, but to be fair Toney moved up to 175 in late '94. Hopkins was at 160 until 2005.

Hopkins too slick, wouldn’t be aggressive and open up, so Toney wouldn’t have a chance to counter. Hopkins would potshot for 12 rds.
