How come most fighters disagree with Mayweather being TBE? Duran, SRL, Tyson, RJJ etc...yet they revere and talk about Ali and SRR as among the best? The only people who back up Mayweather's TBE claim are mostly his fans. For me, you need to be respected and admired by your peers, just like in the academic world, you earn respect by fellow professors not laymen. Mayweather was great, but far from the TBE.

i remember there were talks of him facing tyson after ruiz. i think roy would've beaten that faded version of 2003 mike.
floyd was never as dominant for any stretch of his career. even floyd at his absolute best i would pick guys like robinson, duran, pryor, chavez, whitaker, leonard, hearns and even winky wright to beat him.
so if we delete everything after 2004 roy is 100% correct.
And I'm a huge Roy fan....one of the greatest offensive talents and athleticism. But be for real.
He isn't close to TBE.
Example. Roy literally fought a fire fighter. He was a great fighter amongst a weak division. Not his fault but it's the truth. Roy was plagued with a weak resume for years.
Ruiz was a paper champ. Don't believe the hype. Tyson/Lewis wouldve broken his eyesocket. No one took it seriously.
Finally fought a guy with a pulse in Tarver.....the rest is history.

Roy was a freak in his prime. I agree p4p he was better than Floyd. Jones shouldn’t have moved up as much as he did. He should have stayed at super middleweight and ruled there until retirement.

Their ability was godly and they couldn't let it go. Imagine having that power? Best in the planets history, your fights turn into performances, your name in lights, the roar of the crowd - women, money, ultimate power over all mankind. You try and let that go.

He is the ultimate create a boxer template for someone who you want to win them all!
As for Sugary Ray Robinson? Jones needs to hurry andnhang the gloves for talking that blasphemy!
Robinson was a walking alien, he was simply out of this dimension!
He was so fast that two punches from one hand looked like he only threw one shot!
He had enough power to KO a silver back gorilla and force a stoppage on the greatest chin of all time in The Raging Bull Jake Lamotta!
He moved as quick as a gazelle, footwork way ahead of his time!
He could box you up and make you look like a fool, **** you up and disfigure your face or end the fight if he wanted!
This is all when medicine was still average and the training regimen was beyond what today's boxers could dream of handling!
Fighting 15 round fights and fightin as often as 7 times or 8 times in a month against savages, killers, unheralded dangerous guys with gloves that were as thin as a fanny pack and with no tape to study for them!
Roy lost his mind with that one, imagine Sugar Ray Robinson in today's era starting 135 and then in his prime at 160!
He would clear out EVERYONE from 135-168 and maybe even 175!
With today's training regimen, tapes to study, better rest time and add with Robinson's skill, talents, 15 rounds + stamina....he would be getting paid to not fight fighters!LOL
Love Roy but he's wrong on that one
I would add that SRR didn't have the option to go looking for the weakest belt holder at LHW like RJJ did at HW.

If Ray fought Maxim at the Thomas & Mack Center all nice with air conditioning like Jones fought Ruiz in, Ray would have won by dominant fashion. Scoring at time of stoppage was 10-3, 9-3-1, and 7-3-3 (all for Robinson).
Jones scorecard was: 116-112 (Jerry Roth), 118-110 (Stanley Christodoulou), and 117-111 (Duane Ford).
Jones is right about Floyd though. Floyd took the check hook out of Jones arsenal, right hand lead (bob-left, weave-right) and some other moves.

Neither man is TBE, Floyd made a ton of money but RJJ is more respected fighter. Personally I would rank Floyd higher than Jones. Mainly cuz Roy stuck around too long and lost fights he should not have been fighting. Very few were competitive with Floyd even towards the tail end of his career. Both these guys some of my all time favorites though.
