This coming Thursday, former four division world champion Roy Jones Jr. is going to hang up his gloves with one final fight in Pensacola, Florida. Jones, 65-9 (47KOs), 49 years old, will enter the ring for what he promises will be his final time, in a ten round cruiserweight showdown with Scott Sigmon, 30-11-1 (16KOs).

The problem is that Roy really damaged his legacy by fighting too long.

Yeah, you're right. He could only dream about catching all the asswhoopins you did. I've always said, prime for prime, no fighter EVER was better than RJJR and Tyson. Those 2 were the best fighters I've ever seen. Of course, I'm only 31 yrs old and boxing has been around forever, but from my experience, those 2 were the best fighters I've ever seen, prime vs prime

He's right about being much better than Floyd but out of his mind to disparage Sugar Ray Robinson. Robinson is the GOAT, the BOAT, or whatever other acronym you want to use. Roy doesn't come close to him.

Ray Robinson started out as a lightweight ( beat the champ in a non title match).

And was almost light heavy but passed out and never got another shot.

he really does have a good argument.. he was fun to watch but the problem is people are going to remember how looked in his fights that were wayyy past his prime just as much as they remember his fights while he was in his prime. By him fighting well past his due date, i feel he def diminished his legacy. just my opinion.

Roy was un***ingbelievable in the ring, just untouchable!

He is the ultimate create a boxer template for someone who you want to win them all!

As for Sugary Ray Robinson? Jones needs to hurry andnhang the gloves for talking that blasphemy!

Robinson was a walking alien, he was simply out of this dimension!

He was so fast that two punches from one hand looked like he only threw one shot!

He had enough power to KO a silver back gorilla and force a stoppage on the greatest chin of all time in The Raging Bull Jake Lamotta!

He moved as quick as a gazelle, footwork way ahead of his time!

He could box you up and make you look like a fool, **** you up and disfigure your face or end the fight if he wanted!

This is all when medicine was still average and the training regimen was beyond what today's boxers could dream of handling!

Fighting 15 round fights and fightin as often as 7 times or 8 times in a month against savages, killers, unheralded dangerous guys with gloves that were as thin as a fanny pack and with no tape to study for them!

Roy lost his mind with that one, imagine Sugar Ray Robinson in today's era starting 135 and then in his prime at 160!

He would clear out EVERYONE from 135-168 and maybe even 175!

With today's training regimen, tapes to study, better rest time and add with Robinson's skill, talents, 15 rounds + stamina....he would be getting paid to not fight fighters!LOL

Love Roy but he's wrong on that one

Roy destroyed his legacy by fighting way after his prime. In this game you gotta know when to walk away. He is just a bum now and that's what will be known about him, a bum.

Damn. Roy. Slandering Floyd for increased ticket sales?

Hope it works out for him.

had roy retired after ruiz he would be correct. from the early 90's to 2004. that version of roy I would favor to beat anyone in history. even robinson.

i remember there were talks of him facing tyson after ruiz. i think roy would've beaten that faded version of 2003 mike.

floyd was never as dominant for any stretch of his career. even floyd at his absolute best i would pick guys like robinson, duran, pryor, chavez, whitaker, leonard, hearns and even winky wright to beat him.

so if we delete everything after 2004 roy is 100% correct.
