Simple
Lou DiBella is the promoter for New York/Northeast (Haymon sees that DiBella does a really good job promoting in the market, knows the market better than any promoter, and, is a reliable partner in delivering the events, and isn't going to embarrass Haymon with his outside of the ring behavior), Barclays Center is the biggest PBC venue outside of Las Vegas and the venue is in DiBella's market.
With everyone in the know of what the money on the show is, everyone gets paid on the back-end; DiBella gets the costs of the show covered, the fighter payouts come from the money that Showtime put up and the live gate, and DiBella's likely keeps any of the proceeds on the event beyond the budget (with Haymon getting his fee from the fighters).
Without knowing any of the actual numbers, let's say that Showtime put up $2.5m to air the fight, the expectation was that the gate would be $750k, and the merch/event sponsors/etc added another $250k to the pot.
No idea what the whole thing costs, but let's say that DiBella spent $500k on the show (rent/insurance/posters/media stuff/etc). With, let's say $2.5m as the final payout to the fighters, that's $500k remaining after DiBella is made whole, leaving $500k plus whatever they got above 750k at the gate (Spence put 12k people into the building) for DiBella to get his take from.
Beyond that, DiBella is doing this work, knowing that he'll likely end up with at least 8 dates to put on at Barclays, plus the dates that Wilder wants to put on in Alabama, plus the casino dates on ShoBox, plus his own smaller club shows.
Not every show is going to be a moneymaker, but if DiBella puts on 30 shows a year, and he's clearing (after expenses are covered) $100k per show, he's sitting on a business that just made $3m in that year (less taxes).
Not bad for a year of hard work.
