Lou DiBella is the promoter for New York/Northeast (Haymon sees that DiBella does a really good job promoting in the market, knows the market better than any promoter, and, is a reliable partner in delivering the events, and isn't going to embarrass Haymon with his outside of the ring behavior), Barclays Center is the biggest PBC venue outside of Las Vegas and the venue is in DiBella's market.

With everyone in the know of what the money on the show is, everyone gets paid on the back-end; DiBella gets the costs of the show covered, the fighter payouts come from the money that Showtime put up and the live gate, and DiBella's likely keeps any of the proceeds on the event beyond the budget (with Haymon getting his fee from the fighters).

Without knowing any of the actual numbers, let's say that Showtime put up $2.5m to air the fight, the expectation was that the gate would be $750k, and the merch/event sponsors/etc added another $250k to the pot.

No idea what the whole thing costs, but let's say that DiBella spent $500k on the show (rent/insurance/posters/media stuff/etc). With, let's say $2.5m as the final payout to the fighters, that's $500k remaining after DiBella is made whole, leaving $500k plus whatever they got above 750k at the gate (Spence put 12k people into the building) for DiBella to get his take from.

Beyond that, DiBella is doing this work, knowing that he'll likely end up with at least 8 dates to put on at Barclays, plus the dates that Wilder wants to put on in Alabama, plus the casino dates on ShoBox, plus his own smaller club shows.

Not every show is going to be a moneymaker, but if DiBella puts on 30 shows a year, and he's clearing (after expenses are covered) $100k per show, he's sitting on a business that just made $3m in that year (less taxes).

Not bad for a year of hard work.

Golden Boy went all in on trying to sign Spence, offered a long term HBO deal, a Cotto fight, etc, and the best they could muster was $2.5 million. You really think Spence was paid $3.5 million to face Lamont Peterson on Showtime when he was only offered $2.5 million for a major pay-per-view against Miguel Cotto? Doesn't make any sense.

Now, what is very possible, is that Errol was offered an advance or signing bonus for re-upping with Haymon that made Showtime more attractive than HBO. But $3.5 million specifically for the Peterson fight? I don't see it.
im always surprised with what these guys are making today..i dont see how any of it is possible. it just all seems crazy to me.. another friend of mine is derric rossy, a heavyweight fighter.. he was literally making $20-$30k a fight and had some big fights. i wanna say he made $30k +/- for the first fight with eddie chambers right here at suffolk community college, both were undefeated and the fight was on espn. his promoter was sal musemeci or something close to that name so i just dont get it. i guess i never will tbh. it seems he wouldve got like $500k-$1mill if he was with haymon for that fight if not more lol.

You bring up something very interesting. People forget just how little most fighters make. It wasn't that long ago that you have a few PPV fighters making millions and everybody else was making peanuts.

One of the things that Haymon has done is really grown the amount of fighters making mid to high six figure purses as well as the amount of fighters making low seven figure purses.

Haymon critics points out that he hasn't developed a new PPV star, but this is deliberate. He's trying to spread the wealth. Instead of having a small handful of stars making millions while everyone else makes nothing, he's trying to build an army of guys making great money. All the big fights winding up on PPV is what killed interest in the sport and PPV only benefited a very select few.

Haymon's biggest fights end up on CBS now instead of PPV, which really helps reach new fans while retaining existing fans who are being trained that if you emotionally invest in these fighters, you won't be charged extra for their biggest fights.

There's a $2m discrepancy between what Rafael heard from some guy who knows Haymon's business told him that Spence was getting and the amount that was publicly declared as what Spence was getting, and I have no reason to trust Rafael here, tbh.

                $2.3 million discrepancy.

I have no doubt Spence was paid more than was on the commission contract. That's standard in boxing for a fighter of his stature. But I have a hard time believing they'd file one third of what his pay actually was.

The problem here is that Rafael believes anything Arum or De La Hoya tell him and Haymon refuses to talk to anybody, so Arum and DLH can make up anything they want and nobody is going to rebut.

Arum & DLH can tell Rafael the same bogus story and suddenly the story is independently double sourced.

they should explain it to haymon so he can stop losing money. maybe they are taking advantage of his dementia? like when your grandma sends you birthday checks and its 6 months from your birthday...this guy is just giving away money. 3.5 million for garcia and spence...no purpose to that except he hates money and is just paying them behind the scenes so they stay with him. hes a very lonely man it seems.

He had that pull when he only had a few world champions.
