Joshua is the one bringing in the money. He sells out stadiums fighting Takam...
Skysports are showing this fight in the UK live, they are trying to push Wilder as an opponent over here. Thats why they wanted him to fight Whyte.

You have an American WBC champ heavyweight & olympic medalist who looks the part, knocks everybody out in brutal fashion usually. Imagine that in the past?? they would have been a huge name, great opposition or not. Most people who don't really follow boxing just want to see knockouts by a guy who looks the part.

His team and network he fights on really haven't done him justice thus far, so i hope things do start picking up.
Very true. Mike Tyson was a huge name way before he was facing decent opposition (wasn't until fight 20 or so) he was KOing people way beneath him, but he was a major draw.

It's actually impressive that Wilder hasn't been KOd yet. Guys don't become champions after starting as late as he did. AJ has been prepped for this stage for a long time. Wilder is just a tall guy who decided to box one day, and has had success. Those are very different paths. Which explains their records and career arc.
Wilder started boxing at the age of 19

"Wilder started boxing in October 2005 when he entered Skyy Boxing Gym in Northport, Alabama and began training under Jay Deas. Wilder was 19 at that time."

Joshua started boxing at the age of 18

"A late starter in the sport, Joshua only began boxing in 2007, aged 18, when his cousin suggested he take it up. His club, Finchley ABC in Barnet, North London, is also home to professional heavyweight Dereck Chisora."

Sorry dude, but I think your point goes out the window.

Wilder does seem to be growing in popularity, I expect Wilder/Ortiz to do better than his previous fights in regards to ratings and revenue. There is a growing demand for the Joshua/Wilder fight.

But Wilder is a big underdog vs Joshua, many feel Wilder is a joke and beating Ortiz decisively will go some way to dispel that idea and build more interest in an eventual Joshua/Wilder unification fight.

So I do feel it's important that Wilder impresses and dispatches Ortiz in dominant fashion. If he is taken the distance even if winning a wide UD many will doubt his power at this level, if he struggles at all it will only reinforce the idea he's a big underdog which of course hurts the marketability of the fight with Joshua.
