Don't even compare Wilder to American champions from the past. You know what is the real reason Wilder doesn't have fans and what's the difference between him and let's say Holyfield or Tyson?I hope that's the case. I think it's criminal that Wilder hasn't reached a wider audience. Lets be fair, even if his opposition hasn't been great, the average armchair sports fan doesn't really care about that...
You have an American WBC champ heavyweight & olympic medalist who looks the part, knocks everybody out in brutal fashion usually. Imagine that in the past?? they would have been a huge name, great opposition or not. Most people who don't really follow boxing just want to see knockouts by a guy who looks the part.
His team and network he fights on really haven't done him justice thus far, so i hope things do start picking up.
Holyfield and Tyson were very smart and charismatic sport personalities. Wilder on the other hand possess as much charisma as toilet water before you flush it and forget any intellect comparison with ones like Mike Tyson.
He's cringe worthy and boxing fans can see it in every interview, he's not the hero American boxing scene wanted, sadly. It's sad he won't understand it himself and makes his case worse demanding respect from fans.Comment

You summed it all up my man, fighting BUMS!!!!!Nobody cares about watching Wilder or ortiz except hardcore fans. The casual fan won't really be tuning into that fight. The anticipation amongst boxing fans will be greater. Commercially, i don't think it will really make much difference at all.
Joshua is the one bringing in the money. He sells out stadiums fighting Takam...Comment

Honestly, it's almost a 50-50 fight. Maybe a slight edge to Wilder, just based on age and overall athleticism.
Ortiz is more skilled however and still powerful regardless of how old he might be. Wilder's never tasted power like that so if he gets hit clean, I don't know how he'll react.Comment

Let's be honest here. This isn't the heavyweight division of the 70's. There just aren't many good heavyweight fighters out there these days. The competition isn't good. It's not so much that Wilder's bad as much as it is the division's bad. Aside from the Klitschko brothers, who did the heavyweight division have for the past 10 years?Comment

The real difference is AJ has had half the amount of fights. His CV is already far more impressive than Wilder despite that. Klistchko is obviously the stand out but having fought Martin for the title so early, having already knocked out Breazeale, Molina and Takam and scheduled for his second unification already in his career I don’t think anyone can complain he has been avoiding anyone, infact Ortiz could have been fighting him too but decided against it.
Wilder has fought (so far) only Stiverne of any note, it’s about time he took out someone decent and it’s needed for his profile. I really hope he takes the Whyte fight afterwards to give him more credibility before he takes on Joshua.Comment
