Now I really believe that you did not see the fight, Cotto performed very well. Styles make fights, just look at the Castillo/Reyes fight, Castillo looked quite unimpressive.
Cotto showed that he can box and fight. He also further confirmed that his left hook is extremely devastating.
Paulie showed a lot of heart considering he fought the ENTIRE fight with blood in his eye. And I think Paulie showed that he was the better "pure boxer." Cotto was just entire too strong and too big for Paulie, whiched showed in the 11th and 12th rounds where Paulie was just trying to survive by clinching.
But for the first 9 rounds, Paulie was right there with Cotto, and at that point, the fight could've gone either way.
6,7,8,9 for paulie everything else for cotto. i think cotto got tiered and was surprised that paulie kept coming at him after the punishment he gave out in the first 4. those first rounds had me saying "i cant belive im only getting 3 rounds for my money
what was the weight difference between the two come fight night? I have yet to see the fight either but did Cotto gain his usual 15 or so pounds or were they both pretty close to one another as they were at the weigh in?
I was wondering the same thing. But I doubt anybody said.
Malignaggi out for 6 months!
Paulie Malignaggi (21-1, 5 KOs), who suffered a fractured right cheekbone during last Saturday's title fight against WBO light welterweight champion Miguel Cotto (27-0, 22 KOs) at Madison Square Garden, won't be back in the ring for at least six months. Dr. Steven W. Margles, from the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts, who in the past performed two successful surgeries on Paulie's hand, is Paulie's personal physician. "Right now," Dr. Margles explained," Paulie is being treated to reduce swelling and the evaluation of bones is ongoing to determine whether or not surgery will be necessary to achieve the best healing. We need to determine whether the breaks are in good position or not. The most important bones aren't seen very well on the CAT Scan we have now. With or without surgery, he will not be able to begin sparring for at least three months, but he could start training sooner. We expect him to be good to fight within six months with no long-term residual problems of any kind. The cut under his left eyebrow was sutured and it will be no problem in the future. When his recovery is complete, he'll be as beautiful as ever."
