2) If by 'fair and square', you mean by using a move that is illegal and against the rules, then so be it! Doesn't change the fact that Lewis performed an illegal move (maybe accidentally or maybe purposely).

um no, the cause of the injury was vitali on this rare occasion actually fighting someone really good.
1) A premature stoppage from the referee.
2) An illegal move to cause the stoppage.
So I guess Lennox Lewis wasn't 'good enough'! Lennox Lewis also wasn't good enough to give Vitali Klitschko a well deserved rematch after Vitali became his mandatory. Since he ducked Vitali like a coward by retiring. At least Hasim Rahman gave Lennox Lewis a rematch like a real champion and a man. Something Lennox Lewis failed / refused to do.
Or, note how he never gets cut so in any of his other fights against middlers.
The odds against your call are astronomical. do the math dude, its been 15 years.
well he didnt land enough. case closed.Comment

That was the cause of the eye injury. Lennox Lewis clearly sc****d Vitali Klitschko's left eye with his thumb (an illegal punch). Thus, the eye damage wasn't even caused by a legal boxing move and anyone arguing that Lennox Lewis is superior or better than Vitali Klitschko because he damaged Vitali's eyes with his thumb, is using an illegal move from Lewis to prove that point. Which means Lewis only proved that he was 'superior' and 'better' at using illegal moves to win bouts.
It's also worth noting that Lewis was already declining by then. Once Lewis became undisputed his goal was Tyson and once that happened I don't think he was really into the rigors of training anymore. Lewis probably peaked in 1999/2000.
Vitali never unified and his level of opposition was too weak IMO for him to be elevated above Lewis even though he gave him hell and perhaps could have won a return. Having said that Lewis was great in re-matches specially when he felt he had a point to prove.Comment

Yet, Lennox Lewis wasn't good enough to beat Vitali Klitschko without needing:
1) A premature stoppage from the referee.
2) An illegal move to cause the stoppage.
So I guess Lennox Lewis wasn't 'good enough'! Lennox Lewis also wasn't good enough to give Vitali Klitschko a well deserved rematch after Vitali became his mandatory. Since he ducked Vitali like a coward by retiring. At least Hasim Rahman gave Lennox Lewis a rematch like a real champion and a man. Something Lennox Lewis failed / refused to do.
Or note how Lennox Lewis has never won any other bout in his pro boxer career against any other opponent by a similar type of stoppage where he injured his other opponent's eyes in a similar manner. Ergo, what Lennox Lewis did to Vitali Klitschko's eye can mainly be attributed to luck and not much on skill. Otherwise, he would've had plenty more victories in a similar manner by winning via a similar type of stoppage and by inflicting a similar type of damage / upon his other opponents.
The odds are, Lennox Lewis hit the jackpot and got a lucky draw in a one in a thousand type of odd. Since he almost never won any other bout in a similar manner against any other opponent and would've been unlikely to win again in that manner, had he fought 10 more bouts against Vitali Klitschko or any other opponent.
Except, he did land enough. What exactly is your point?Comment

1) Being a fan has nothing to do with this. What I've provided are facts that have no relevance to being a fan but to being objective.

my point is your lies
do not prove tko6 didnt happen.
There are other FACTUAL things that also happened:
1) Vitali Klitschko forced Lennox Lewis to retire which >>> TKO 6.
2) Vitali Klitschko became the mandatory challenger to Lennox Lewis's title after their bout and Lewis blatantly, shamefully and disgracefully ducked the rematch like the inferior and non-confident boxer that he was. Despite the fact that it would've been a HUGE payday for Lennox Lewis.
3) Vitali Klitschko was ahead on the scorecards and Lennox Lewis required an illegal punch to get the TKO victory.Comment

I'll have a look later when I'm off work it's been about 10 years or so since I last watched that fight but I remember it looking clean. It's very difficult to open a cut with a thumb on a Boxing glove without using a great deal of force though so I'm not sure how that could happen but I'll have a look later.
It's also worth noting that Lewis was already declining by then. Once Lewis became undisputed his goal was Tyson and once that happened I don't think he was really into the rigors of training anymore. Lewis probably peaked in 1999/2000.

- I agree and would rank Lennox Lewis slightly ahead of Vitali Klitschko in the accomplishments ranking, based on the things you've already mentioned. Such as Vitali Klitschko not unifying and not having as many top quality wins as Lennox Lewis did against more top level opposition / better level of opposition.
- However, I personally rank Vitali Klitschko number 1 in the head to head rankings. Simply because he appears to have a nightmare style for pretty much any heavyweight by possessing ATG punch resistance, punch power, physical strength, awkwardness and etc. I don't think Vitali Klitschko has ever been down on the scorecards in any bout and all of his losses came from physical injury, rather than his opponents comprehensively beating him or proving they are clearly the better boxer than him.Comment

where to start? an "illegal punch caused the cut"!?
course, these illegal punches ONLY happen on the one occasion that vitali steps up for someone really good.
sour g****s mate.
1) Vitali Klitschko forced Lennox Lewis to retire which >>> TKO 6.
begin your argument on that NOW, or stop being silly. its been 15 long years for goodness sake.Last edited by DreamFighter; 01-13-2018, 05:20 AM.Comment
