He had to wait till 2017 to fight Canelo because Canelo asked for a voluntary against Khan then vacated his title and stalled for a year, instead of fighting GGG immediately after Cotto, which was what he'd promised to do.

almost 2 years later he got the canelo fight....good job with your timeline!

GGG also promised he would fight anyone from 154-168 even canelo at 154...then when time came he refused to negotiate a CW

Looked at from where we are now, yes, that's true.

But when Ward sent that offer to GGG, he hadn't had a top class win in years and was coming back after major surgery to his shoulder.

If GGG had moved up and beaten him, Ward would probably have retired and the 2 fights with Kovalev at 175 would have never happened. Legacy wise, beating Ward back then wouldn't have mean't anything like as much as beating him after he'd won titles at 175 as well as 168.

And did Ortiz also say he was going to do that?

Because you started this convo off by saying that Ortiz and GGG had been in the same situation .. remember?

what top class win did golovkin had when ward sent the offer? LOL

ward didnt need a top class win...he already had them....if floyd came back tomorrow would someone say "hey man floyd needs a top class win first before he can fight me...mcgregor was a joke...so was berto".....or pac....would someone say "hey man pac needs a top class win first before he can face me...horn stinks"

wards resume spoke volumes...people in boxing know ward and his status.....he didnt need to prove anything to k2 or golovkin...he simply had to show up

thats a clown excuse you made man

So Ward, straight after beating Paul Smith in 2015, had the same status in boxing as Floyd has now?

              Yeah, right.

Ward was top 3 P4P when that offer was sent and was viewed as one of the best fighters in the sport. Stop trying to rewrite history. If Golovkin beat Ward then he would have been made clear 1 on everyones list.

he had the same status p4p wise...yes...i didnt say popularity or anything of that nature....but you know what i was implying....ur just playing dumb to spare your lame argument

his p4p status was unchanged....ward was known in the fight game as a top 5 p4p fighter even being inactive....all he had to do is say hes back and his status was the same......if ward were to come out next year and say he wanted to fight again do you think he would first have to "prove" himself to someone? NOPE!

He would also be No1 on everyone's list if he'd beaten Canelo then unified 160 against Lee or BJS - which was the plan he had - and a hell of a lot richer!

And don't forget, Loefflers response to Ward was to wait till GGG had finished his business at 160, if he wanted him to move up to 168.

That's a perfectly reasonable and acceptable stance for a pro boxer to take. Money first .. then legacy. That's the way it always goes, and always has gone.
