Why did Ortiz choose to fight Wilder over Joshua?

Ortiz was never signed with Hearn. Hearn tried to sign him to his stable so when he fought Joshua, win or lose he'd end up with a champion in his stable. But Ortiz refused to make any commitment and just wanted Hearn to represent him on a fight by fight basis.

Hearns plan was to fight Pulev for the IBF mandatory and then the Ortiz for the WBA mandatory. But I suspect Haymon convinced Ortiz to sign with him with the promise he'd get an a shot at Wilder.

Why would Ortiz fight Wilder for less than for a guaranteed 25% against Joshua? Ortiz is playing the long game. He likely believes he can easily beat Wilder so when he fights Joshua he has more leverage and can get more than 25%.

Because wilder is a much easier fight and he has a good chance to KO him.

He could have waited on that mandatory shot but those sanctioning bodies will bend for AJ. And Wilder has given him his shot.

I'm interested in a Wilder scrap for the first time. It is a dangerous pick and for me the best guy he could fight next.
Ortiz was guaranteed a shot at Joshua AFTER Pulev ,Hearn was willing to sign that which wouldn't matter anyway bc Ortiz WAS Joshuas mandatory next in line .

Joshua COULDNT have avoided Ortiz , who himself CHOSE not too wait which wouldn't have mattered anyway bc HAD the Klitchko rematch happen he THEN waits longer bc Pulev is stillup first .

Ortiz thought Wilder the easier target otherwise it wouldn't make sense for Ortiz not to wait a bit longer who himself could have fought a guy like Martz in the mean time right ?

Thats what he did recently right to prepare himself for possibly Wilder . lol

That's a perfectly reasonable and acceptable stance for a pro boxer to take. Money first .. then legacy. That's the way it always goes, and always has gone.
That would have been an acceptable stance for a fighter that hadn't been claiming he'd fight anyone in the divisions above and was still trying to make fights up at the weight months before.

GGG wasn't even in the same division as Ward .. let alone mandatory to a world title held by Ward, you fucking numpty!

But yeah .. duh .. he could have fought Lemieux, then moved up and fought Ward at 168, then moved back down and fought Canelo at 160, all in the space of what .. about 8/9 months?

            Easy work.

Leave it to Curt to turn this into a Golovkin thread. He cannot help himself.

As for this thread topic- There's nothing wrong with a Wilder Ortiz fight.

Ortiz is a PED cheat but before he got busted the 2nd time AJ (via Hearn) showed zero interest in fighting Ortiz, I’d actually make AJ the favourite in that fight but Hearn clearly wouldn't dream of risking his cash cow against a dangerous and skilled HW like Ortiz. Regardless of what people think of Wilder he deserves credit for taking this guy as a voluntary, AJ/Hearn would never take that sort of risk

He would have fought Joshua in Feb had he not wanted wilder (and not failed the drug test). Hearn and Joshua had said this many times before Ortiz setup the date with wilder originally.

                There original plan was:
                Defend ibf mandatory - nov
                Defend wba mandatory - Feb
                Unify against either Parker/wilder - June/july

Lol showed zero interest really? Other than talking about Ortiz being next after Pulev for ages, then Hearn promoting 2 Ortiz fights, one on the undercard of a Joshua fight to build Ortiz's profile for the Joshua fight. If he didn't want Ortiz he would of done his best to hide Ortiz so when they ducked him they could tell casuals Ortiz was a bum who fought nobody. Instead he tried to build the fight.

Hearn is always pretty straight forward with his plans. He said Joshua would fight Wlad, people said it was just PR, but then he signed the fight. Wlad pulled out saying he was injured, people took that as proof that the fight was never going to happen, then Wlad steps into the ring after the Molina fight and confirms they have signed to fight. Lol at the disbelievers with egg on their faces.

Hearn says he'll fight Parker next, people say it's never going to happen and that if he wanted it they would of taken 60/40 and anything else is a duck. Hearn is now just awaiting Parkers signature to agree the fight lol. Haters again made to look like fools.

joshua is too technically sound for ortiz to beat at 48 years old. wilder makes enough mistakes where ortiz could land that big counter and we know deontay has a biscuit chin.

Building Ortiz’s profile by fighting who? Dave Allen😂😂
Hearn never had any interest in fighting Ortiz, the only way that fight was happening was if it was a forced mandatory. Saying and Doing are very different, your another one of these guys who’s been ****** in by Hearn’s car salesmen BS.

Hearn is straight forward with his plans GTFOH😭😭😭
He said there was a good chance Wilder vs Whyte would happen on Feb 3 instead he’s given us Chamberlain vs Okollie😭😭😭
The man is a habitual liar, he’s full of ****, but don’t take my word for it- go watch him in a live interview on tha boxing voice where Wilder and Shelly Finkel EXPOSE him as a LIAR.
If you honestly think Hearn is a straight forward guy your insane and beyond help. Go and ask REAL boxing men like Goodwin, Hobson, Ayling, McGuigan, Hatton etc etc what they think of Hearn. He’s a lying, money grabbing c*nt just like his father and that ain’t hating kid that’s just the TRUTH.
