Edit: Same for Lewis but he retired around the time Toney moved up.
He couldn't even beat Sam Peter or Hasim Rahman let alone the Klitschko's or Lewis.

Toney's resume at HW is garbage the fact that people try and argue that he could have been anything of any note there is ridiculous.

He got robbed in the first Peter fight, he should've won 8-4.

            Nah not at all IMO.

First fight was either way. I had Peter edging it.

            Second fight Peter won easily.

                  2. Joe has nothing to do with this thread.

                  3. How could Roy's win over Ruiz not have been impressive?
                  3. Every heavyweight worth his salt beat Ruiz. And James Toney beat him with ease. It was never a great feat to beat Ruiz, even if a guy is coming up from heavyweight. It was a novelty win, kind of like when Roy beat some bum after playing basketball all day and another time when he wore a microphone when he was boxing a guy and that was such a big deal, when it was really a waste of time. Lots of light heavyweights in history moved up and fought much, much better heavyweights than John Ruiz. A Ruiz win doesn't mean much, my friend.

Nobody is saying that Ruiz was a GREAT HW. He wasn't. But Roy started out at JMW and MW, and he moved up to HW at 34, after almost 50 fights.

Although Ruiz wasn't great, he was tough. He gave decent HW's tough fights. He also outweighed Roy by over 30 pounds.

For you to say it wasn't impressive is ridiculous. If you want to say that Ruiz wasn't great, that's fine. If you want to say the fight was boring, that's also fine by me. But give Roy credit. He beat him with absolute ease. At the end of the day, Ruiz was a top 10 HW. And he'd be a top 10 HW today if he was around today.

Any former JMW who ended up easily beating ANY top 10 HW would deserve respect.

It was an impressive win. Not many other guys have even attempted it in the modern era. No other LHW's were queuing up to fight Ruiz. For you to say it wasn't impressive is just ignorant.

James Toney started out at middleweight and fought Ruiz at the age of 36 and after seventy fights and like Jones, beat him with ease.

                      Ruiz was an easy mark.

                      Novelty win.
