I was saying it. Several others were saying it. As for the media, they were too busy reading press releases that instructedthem to hype the fight, but everyone with any knowledge of boxing knew why Ruis was picked. Even a byrd fight would have made more money for Roy, but Byrd was still fighting as a slick southpaw at the time and the outcome wasn't virtually guaranteed. While I think Roy would have won that fight, Byrd still had the chance of making him look silly, even in victory. The other 2 champions at the time would have just flat killed him.
The media picking Ruiz because of 'hype' doesn't coincide with what the fans said. The fans were 50-50 split for the fight on every site I visited, and many thought Roy would flat get KOd, including many pro boxers such as Bob Foster.
Being that so many people picked Roy to lose, he should get a good amount of credit for that win, and I think he has.

Exactly agreed completely......a prime Jones beats up anyone i believe even Tyson
Chris Eubanks is an unbelievable guy, had injections in his knee to mask the pain just before he went out to fight Calzaghe, leaves the ring after Calzaghe fight with a smile on his unmarked face and struts out of the arena while Calzaghe`s face is left bashed up and Calzaghe`s barely able to stand in the ring, funny stuff
I don't think Jones could've beaten a prime Tyson. he could've beaten the one that lost to Danny Williams though. As for Eubank, he wasn't a bad fighter but despite his quick feet he'd not be hard for a guy like Roy to hit. If he went forward Roy would counter him all night.
Roy in his prime of skill would have boxed rings around any fighter in the world period in my opinion.....in his prime he was the closest thing to Ray Robinson we have seen.
whch makes it really sad that Roy spent the vast majority of his prime in a division so devoid of depth of talent.
apparently eubank once said in 91 he would fight glenn mcrory at heavyweight if mcrory beat lennox lewis
I wouldn't be suprised, Eubank had to lose 19lbs in three days to make weight for the first Watson fight. He blacked out, and like you said on here the other day his eyeballs dried out.
He was a big light-heavyweight, who could make middleweight (just!).
it would have been the most boring fight ever, RJJ woul dhave landed about 6 punches around while LL would land 2 or 3. RJJ wins by dec in a horrible fight
